Yet another article in the press about valuable SW vintage

These articles are annoying.

Sure, Keith Guppy has a lot of stuff - all modern from the pic provided.

Why in the world would they suggest people buy up new toys for future investment purchases? Have they no idea how the "investments" of the last 20 years performed? ;)

And then of course, they link to a "top 10 most valuable toys".

They actually got the VC Jawa priced right (unlike Yahoo), but the last I knew, it didn't come with a saber.

An X-Wing is more recognizable than the Falcon?

I'm pretty sure Vlix is underpriced. ;)

Of course, no mention of DT's RF Fett, etc....

Who are the experts they refer to?

This is such a specialised hobby, throwing around generalised claims and values doesn't really touch on the intricacies that play such a major part in valuations

I've started to think the number of articles professing the investment value of vintage is a good thing. Sure a few people might get into it and prices could go up - but I think it's more likely that people find the odd piece in the loft, and the occasional massive find comes out - better in the collectors market than rotting in a loft!

This is a good point.

As in the 'Vectis Effect' when Craig's Fett reached £18k, we might see a surge in collections coming down from the loft. TFA has certainly 'helped' spotlight the hobby, in both negative and positive ways.

The "All Star Wars is valuable" myth has been around for a long time now, I'm abit surprised there are still people uncovering stuff and realising it's worth money but it's obviously happening very regularly.

I fear abit for the collector in the article. I'm originally an accountant and we value stock at original cost or the value you could realise now if it was sold. With all that modern stuff I bet the £40k he quotes is what he paid and he would only get a fraction of that back if he ever came to sell. It's not a great advert for such a great "investment"
