That same seller has another that's going for quite a bit at the moment. I've noticed they've been banging these out for a while now and I guess if people are starting to pay these high prices (if they really are), then I can see why they'll keep doing it.
I must admit I have a couple of these I picked up years ago when people had more accurately coloured capes (I know I'm not helping the situation by having these but we all had to start somewhere with collecting! ). I never really liked them as the card backs were always really poor quality but I think the highest I paid was about 16 pounds so I didn't mind so much. I also have a Palitoy one that I bought for a laugh so I can see why people will buy these things if they're made available. The problem now is that people might actually start thinking these repro's are of value and there's always the possibility that these will be passed off as original as time goes by.
The bottom line for me is that repro's maybe fine for some people with limited funds or who enjoy the many custom ones out there of characters that were never released but vintage collectors will always want the real deal. Also if the prices do end up getting high for these then you can bet the market will become even more flooded soon enough. It's a real tricky one as we don't want any repro items in our collections and have to go through this whole song and dance testing weapons every time we buy a vintage accessory from someone we don't know. I guess it won't stop as long as there's money to be made in the repro field so we'll just have to stick together with our original collections and try to educate people who are unaware of what they have and out anyone who is blatantly trying to rip someone off.
