Hi guys, I have bought some star wars items from a guy. He mailed me the invoice and I paid. Today I received a mail from him that he wanted £14 more for the mail. Would you have paid £14 more or would you expect the seller to pay for his mistake ? Normally I would say a deal is a deal.

As a regular seller, I always find it tough to get extra money for postage. It really annoys me that people are ready to quibble when postage price is £1.00 less than advertised yet no-one is ready to pay the extra £1.00 when it costs more

I think it's an ebay seller's responsibility to research postage costs properly and make sure their quote covers their costs. If they don't know how much an item costs to post they shouldn't be selling it.
If it's a private sale that's different. If someone on a forum said postage was a little extra than expected i would 9 times out of 10 be fine with that. Depending on the situation.

Thats easy in practise but not in principal - especially with some of the larger items - a bit of extra packaging can tip something onto the next band. And sending items abroad can be tough to gauge as well - especially to Australia or the US

You pretty much learn that after a few sales if you tend to sell stuff of similar weight and/or size but if you're a new seller and just have no clue you can pop to the post office with your item and get it weighed and quoted as i did last week. I also walked up to the WHSmith near me which has a DHL service and got a quote there too. As the seller taking people's money i just feel that is my duty to gather the necessary information to make a sale and to not misquote those purchasing my items who will often be factoring in the postage quote as part of their decision to buy in the first place.

Hi guys, it is a ebay deal. It was some auctions that he combined. He mailed me the invoice with a mail for £15 and maid a note like this one

ive combined postage but it is slightly more because you are in Denmark and he mails from UK.

I paid sunday and 2 days later I got a message about he has just been to post office I worked the postage wrong the cheapest I can get is £29

What do you guys think about that ?

When I sold on ebay to France I gave a good guess as to how much it would cost to post. When I sent it it actually cost more than all of the money I got for the auction. I put it down to experience and although I mentioned it I didn't ask for the money as I assumed my fault. If someone on here misquoted I would pay no probs. a stranger on ebay? No. It is the seller's fault.

£29 is a lot - what size are the items

The trouble is that unless the seller sends it recorded delivery then he has no comeback as Ebay will always find in favour of the buyer

He is sending me some star wars, the package weighs is 3.6 kg.

Damn now he has changed his mind again and send me a new mail about £24 for the package.

But is it my problem he has send a invoice with a too low postage ?

3.6kg is really heavy to be fair. I maintain it is the seller's responsibility to quote correct postage but if he is telling the truth then i guess the good thing to do is pay it but if you feel it prices you out of the items you are buying then you may have to cancel the sale or perhaps agree to go halves since it should be the quoted postage you pay. It just depends how you personally feel. I would ask for a receipt tho.

Well I hate to say it as I have been caught out with postage prices, but if the seller had already done a revised invoice for you on combined postage, they really should have checked that they could send the items at the price quoted, as said I have been caught out b4 when selling something but just swallowed the lost as it was my own dumb fault for not making sure before hand & regarded as a learning curve.

If they have quoted & you have paid, I think ebay would side with you should you question the cost.

I just checked on the royal mail web page price finder & he is not overcharging you as that is the cheapest option -

globalvalue Delivery Aim 4-6 days Up to £100 Not Tracked £23.49 + VAT

Though it is still his own fault for not checking first.

Thanks again guys

I think I would offer him halves, but I still think I should not pay for his mistake.

I don't think you should either, but if it was an honest mistake, I'd go halves with him, but you can't really know with ebay...
How is his feedback? Any mention of demanding more on shipping there?

He has Shipping and handling charges 4.9 out of 5 and last 12 months he has 144 Positive and 1 Neutral.

I 100% disagree and to be honest that attitude is wrong. So he has made a mistake - if you don't want the items then don't buy them - why should the seller loose out on something that he doesn't make any money on at all - don't forget that paypal take 4% and there are also material and time costs

Why do buyers think that this is fair ?

As I more often than not buy from outside my country, shipping is a big factor when it comes to costs,
it plays a big role in what the total will be for the items, as you very well know yourself.
If you buy something and the seller comes back demanding more than advertised, the total might not be as tempting as it was before he "revised"
his shipping costs.
This is alot easier to deal with on the forums, as the good will on here have a tendency to flow back, mainly because you feel you "know" the guys
you're dealing with and you don't want to create something negative out of it, so people are more inclined to "overlook" an honest mistake.

Ebay has its rules, and if you as a seller is unsure of the exact quote, state it in the description that you will get the exact quote when asked, or state that it will be
determined after the auction is over, this isn't very hard to do, is it? At least then the buyer is aware of that the quote may be higher than anticipated.
It was advertised at the cost Lars told us, and he was told after the auction ended it wasn't correct.
Sure he can pass on it, or cough up the extra, that's his choice, but I still think, as a mainly overseas buyer, this is on the seller, especially since Lars already has paid the
original invoice.

Yes the guy maid a mistake, but he choose to use ebay, he could have used this forum or another forum to sell the things to save the 4% why should buyers always pay for others mistakes ? Should the seller not learn to take responsibility for his own decisions ?
