World Cup 2018 Thread

Well **** in a bag and punch it, we actually won just about, I thought it was all over when Columbia scored in added mins. England were getting fatigued and playing pretty poor but they picked up their game quite a bit with an extra burst of energy in the 2nd half of extra time, such a lucky ****ing win though with penalties.

Am I glad Columbia didn't win that game they didn't deserve it one bit, their behaviour in the first half was ****ing diabolical, i'm very surprised not a single red card appeared.

I feel stressed after watching that  edge of my seat the entire time, looking forward to the next game and hopefully we won't have any bullshit childish behaviour to deal with. Just seen the replay of one of the Columbia players digging his boot into the penalty spot to try and **** up our penalty, what are we 5 years old?... jeez! :|

I'm not all dark side, there is a little light in there.
Yea...just enough to possibly light a fart :?
 8)

Well they do say 'i'm the spark that lights the fire that will burn the first order down'....

We were the better of the two sides and anyone who wants to argue that then I'm happy to, Colombia offered nothing in that game apart from classic South American gamesmanship and they are a much better side than they were tonight. Couldn't be happier for England to win on pens. As I've said before England are not good enough to win this World Cup, but if they are aloud to stick together something could happen in the next decade.

It's disappointing how teams like England switch off in games defensively in games like that at the end, but the right side whent through, no doubt.

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of all the dirty tactics and foul play against England going largely unpunished. The headbutt on Henderson was a transparent red card, yet the ref only gave a spineless yellow, even with VAR clearly showing contact with Henderson's chin! Colombia played disgracefully throughout the game, fouling left, right and centre and employing every dirty trick in the book, and the ref let most of it go unpunished! Yes we got the penalty (which was no less than we deserved after Kane was once again bundled to the ground), but Colombia should never have finished the game with 11 men.

Thankfully justice was done in the end. England were by far the better side overall, although yet again we slipped back into all this side-to-side back bollocks which drives me mad! It exposes us to needless risk and lets the opposition off the hook. Before we started doing all that shite, we looked very dangerous indeed, and it was only after we scored and the match wore on that Colombia finally realised their filthy cheating tactics weren't working and they had to try to play football instead, which unfortunately coincided with England relaxing too much.

Anyway, well done England! And with a penalty shootout too!... Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming! :)

True, when Columbia stopped acting like a load of little cunts they actually played good, they really shot themselves in the foot there as they could have played well from the start if they actually used their heads.

That ref needs sacking too he's as soft as a gone off apple, he let the Columbia players intimidate and bully him, that moment when the ref draw the line on the ground for them to stand behind for England's free kick and all the players squared up to him and complained the line should have been drawn a little touch more to the right of it, and the twat re-did the line for them. He started giving away more yellows during the second half though so I suspect someone may have had a word with him at half time, but he had no authority or presence for most of that game.

So happy we came through all this bullshit, the lads done really well to not let it all get to them and they stayed professional throughout, and Ian Wrights reaction to the England penalty win after he was hiding his face in his hands had me in stitches.

Thoughts on last night, in no real order.

1) The best team won, Colombia were a disgrace. I was half watching that game hoping they would win if only so I could watch a game without having to listen to MORE talk about Engerlund, but inside 5 mins any fondness or liking I had for them went out the window. I don't know why they decided GBH and general cuntiness was the way to go, that England team aren't exactly amazing, but that's their problem. Good to see them out. No time for teams like that.
2) Switzerland and Sweden were both ****. If either team had a centre forward worth the name they would have won 3 or 4 nil yesterday.
3) Raheem Sterling really is ****. He picks the wrong option every time. He was Colombia's best player in the first half.
4) Kyle Walker is robbing a living as a "defender".
5) Colombia were very lucky to finish with 11 men. That headbutt on Henderson was either a warning, cos it was a soft as **** headbutt, or a red cos ehhh it was a headbutt. The one thing it wasn't was a yellow. Saying that Henderson did throw his head into a Colombian in an even gayer way later in the game, so maybe he was lucky, and he needs to learn not to react.
6) Ahh you were due winning/fluking a penalty shoot out
7) YOU'RE DOING IT AGAIN!!!!!!!! I had the radio on for 45 mins this morning on my way in to work. During that time they talked about, England's win last night, England winning last night, the fact England won last night, England beating Colombia and that's it. NOTHING else is going on in the world apparently. FORTY FIVE ****ING MINS of solid talk about England winning a ****ing second game, it's the second round not the ****ing final. The only time they even contemplated moving away from talking about England was to say Sweden beat Switzerland and will now play England who coincidentally won last night. This isn't so tin pot local (English) radio station or a sports radio station, this was ****ing radio 5. Is it any wonder a growing majority of non English Brits cheer for your opponents. There's celebrating a victory and then there's going ridiculously over the top. This is the latter.
8 ) Clive Tilsley or however you spell his name. The ITV commentator, I can understand co commentators not being neutral, most r ex pros (or wankers like Hoddle) but yer man was a ****ing disgrace last night. He didn't even attempt any semblance of neutrality and his for his comments when England won the shootout, I nearly put my boot through the TV. Do the world a favour Clive and **** off.

I do try to support home nations in tournaments (unless your wales playing NI in the last Euros) but **** me your media make it all but impossible.

Looking at law of meaningless averages. Looks like England get as far as the quarter finals and the majority of games against Sweden end in a draw with slight favour to Sweden.

This means nothing I know, so looking forward to penalties again.

England remind me a bit of Spurs (probably because we make up half the team ) in the sense that luck never seems to go our way. The fact we had previously lost 4 of 4 world cup penalty shoot outs was statistically very unlikely, yet still happened giving us THE WORST record in the world. FINALLY a bit of luck went our way and the penalties curse is over. England were pretty poor in the second half and don't look anywhere near good enough to beat a decent team, but winning any knock out competition is at least 50% luck and if a few more things go our way, I think this is as good an opportunity as we've had since 1966. Why not!

Please refrain from mentioning '1966'. You don't hear the Normans still rattle on about 1066

Yeah, your right- anything can happen. Feels like there is a lot less pressure on England than some of the other expected teams. A bit like wales in the euros in 2016 when every advance was a bonus rather than an entitlement.

Italia '90 is a favourite childhood memory. England vs West Germany is my favourite match of all time (due to the tension) with Linkers goal as my all time favourite. I'd love to see that happen again.

Shame Gareth Southgate didn't ask us for advice on the Belgium game. Just because we whooped the favourites in the quarter finals in the Euros (2nd favourite game). :p

I'd say go with it. Like every new Star Wars film. Hope it will be the best and ride the wave. Optimism is a billion times more fun. I'd love to see England in the final.

But I think it will be Uruguay vs Croatia....... but I've been wrong in every game so far.

Yeah 90 I loved that world cup. That was a dam good England team they had. I liked Stuart Pearce and I still feel for him. He played with his heart on his sleeve. I really enjoy watching players that have that drive in them. Men who would face any challenge head on in the field. I guess that's why I don't have the same interest anymore. I really hate watching bastards rolling around as if they had their shin bone smashed and nothing wrong with them. But as Weasel said it's also the media I think that turns some people off the team as they progress. It's not the players fault. But its baffling why the English journalists do this. I guess they are just trying to sell numbers and keep a job.

Well that's Brazil out, European championship now. Belgium/France look good you have to say the two best teams left are playing the final in the semis. That said Croatia looked good in the group stage and anything can happen now.

Anyone else thought about going on eBay tomorrow during the England game, I bet their will be some bargains!

Holy ****, semi-final!!!

Good game today too they played really well, Stirling needs to be sacked though, he's ****ing ****, we could lose a game here because of him, 2 or 3 goals he should have landed but his brain just turns into mashed potato when he reaches the box, abhurrrr! :|

Anyway....

Agreed, although my biggest problem with him is that he never, EVER passes if someone else is in a better position than him. One of his several **** ups today saw Kane to his left completely unmarked, but like the selfish talentless little **** that he is for England, it never even crossed Stirling's tiny mind to pass the ball to a proven goal scorer... GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can he be so good for City, yet so **** for England?... Play Rashford instead!

Anyway, roll on Croatia or Russia... OK then, Croatia ;-)!

I disagree on today's evidence. He may have squandered a few chances but he struck fear into the Swedish defence every time he went forward, and created space for the other forwards. After Pickford, Maguire and Trippier he was England's best player.

Great result and well deserved, great Team effort

Agree on Sterling, I know he can't hit a barn door but today showed exactly why Southgate is playing him, I'm a massive Rashford fan though and hope we get to see something of him as well.

The dream rolls on :D
