World Cup 2018 Thread

A lot of people and the media are going on about England's chances saying we have a good shot at the final with the teams we could be facing, but these teams have BEATEN all these world class teams who've been knocked out, they've been playing excellent in this world cup, some of the skill and determination iv'e seen just surpasses England.

I think we're gonna get ****ing destroyed  ... if we're gonna win today it's gonna be by a whisker or a lucky goal, maybe even through a random penalty or something, but if we do go through today then we'll definitely get destroyed in the quarter final match. The other teams are hungry as ****, are playing much sharper, have more skill, strategy and determination, England can usually play like this but it lasts for 15 or 20 mins then they get burnt out and get lazy and sloppy, and the heat doesn't help them either.

We're gonna die!!

We can all analyse the hell out of the why s and the wherefore s and yes a lot of the big boys are on their way home, BUT we are still there so let's look at it for what it is...a knock out game in the last 16, one game at a time, be positive instead of the typical England mentality of we are crap, we can't change the team that are there, we can only get on the pitch and go for it.
We have a young team who want to do well, with a manager that seems to have a level head, and the backing of the team.

Would I prefer to be Colombian going into the game thinking, lost 3 drawn 2 in the last 5 games against England

I'll be cheering them on tonight :D
Come on England :D

As for the ET penalty shout, like you I thought it was a clear penalty, however apparently other replays showed both players holding each other's shirts, hence it was a 50-50 and hence no foul or penalty.

I hadn't heard that about other replays. Will have to have a look for them.

I do agree about Spain not attacking enough, but that's a mentality thing. They expect tiki taka to work and trust it. They do have a point. But you're right, there is a time for a slightly more direct style. Though saying that those Russian CB's would have been happy enough heading away crosses, especially Spain only really have Costa as a target man. Ramos and Pique and both good in the air but don't really want both ur CB's in the other team's box for the duration of ET.

It did bring a smile to my face when that wee scrote asspass missed the crucial penalty.

Loving this World Cup.

I think anything could happen, including an England advancement. After all, who had South Korea 2 - Germany 0?

O ye of little faith! You might be right, but personally I think England will beat Colombia. Time will tell! :-D

I'm just watching Sweden Switzerland and neither of them look all that. Sweden have missed half a dozen sitters, their forwards are ****. If we get past Columbia we have a good chance of a semi :) I'm a bit nervous about tonight  :p

Sweden v Switzerland was embarrassing. A dreadful game. They play like that and even Raheem Sterling may get a goal if we play them

  Guy really can't shoot for ****, even if he was the only player on the pitch with no keeper he'd still spoon it.

My thoughts exactly, if we reach the quarter there's a good chance at it after seeing Sweden play like that.

We really could be seeing England playing for the final.......

I'm actually starting to feel really optimistic about this game the closer it gets.

I'm not all dark side, there is a little light in there.

They were a tad too open with 10 mins to go, lacking game management. Felt a goal was coming for Colombia. Got to say these South Americans teams are pretty disgraceful with their antics surrounding referees etc.

****ing lucky that, need to play better against Sweden for sure
Do you not think that this will be more of a "premiership game" rather than a game of "keeping your nerve/temper" as games often are against Latin teams?
No matter what the outcome, we have won a penalty shoot out for the first time since 1996!
(It was 1996 wasn't it?)
