Will the UK leave the EU ?

Not living in the uk and I buy a lot in the UK then I think about the import duties if the UK leave EU. Not that I like or that I am happy about EU, because I am not. But I am sure I need to pay for import of star wars from the UK to denmark if the UK leave.

Last year we voted in Denmark about more EU law and Denmark voted NO

I think it must be the same for people in UK buying outside the UK if they leave EU, import duties.

My only real concern is that we'd presumably get shafted for import duties from European purchases, like we are for the States now. Not the biggest factor to make an informed decision, but something to consider.

What people do miss is that this is more significant than we realise. We are not a nation who can survive on it's own produce. So if we put up our fences it does mean that all imports will be subject to taxation, customs, etc. Of course we could arrange it such that EU countries get better rates than for other countries, but that will cause more problems.

An increase in collected duties would be good for the government, but increased prices on everything would potentially lead to inflation, etc. I don't think the benefits of leaving are as high as people think (the anti-EU lobby would have you believe we could spend all that money we send to EU on the NHS, etc).

I have no love for the EU for the way it is run, but I am a fan of cold hard facts and what we don't need is another economic recession based off us closing our borders.

I can't believe I actually watched that all the way through. Maybe it was the sexy dancing.

More than just a star. WTF??? Why does it always seem that the far right attract the uneducated. EDL, BNP and UKIP followers always seem to be subhuman in mental capacity. Or am I just being unfair and biased. :D

No it's pretty accurate, stupid people fear what they don't understand.

General ignorance is the opposite of common sense and educated curiosity.

I'm generally pro European but I'm not a fan of the EU.
Come on, I'm from Norn Iron, I'm allowed to make no sense at all, it's what we do best (other than kill each other over which way you worship an invisible sky fairy who doesn't ****ing exist).

I do think the idea of an economic union among the plethora of small European countries is a good idea. As someone said the days of the nation state and of European dominance over the world are long gone. But if Europe works together and speaks with a common voice it can still hold its own. My big problem with the EU is the bureaucracy that comes with it. I'm not a fan of 'big government' at all and the EU bureaucracy is farcically vast. To say it wastes a lot of it's money on pen pushers is a massive understatement. FFS it can't even agree where to have it's parliament, so it pays for two!
The issue of the EU accounts not being signed off is another nail in the coffin. If it were a publically listed company there would be calls for an enquiry and the Board of Directors would be in Court. Mind you, UK politicians aren't backwards in feathering their own nest either, just look at the Expenses scandal from a few years ago.
The problem I have is the seeming desire among EU bureaucrats for ever more political union, ie more power for them. I'm not sure the vast majority of Europeans actually want more decisions made in Brussels. That goes for traditionally "pro" European countries like France, and Holland as much as the traditional awkward squad of Britain, Denmark, Sweden etc.
An economic union, yes, but tone down the power grab please! We are quite capable of deciding if we want to let prisoners vote, or who we want to deport without being hamstrung.

Ps, someone mentioned the issue of the NHS needing more money. I have to disagree. As someone who used to work in the Private health sector I have had many dealings with the NHS, and Social Services in particular. I can honestly say I have NEVER seen a more incompetent, under worked, over paid, bunch of tossers in my life.. There is literally ZERO accountability, unless you make a decision, so how do you avoid getting in any ****.........you don't make a decision.

An example of the kind of waste in the NHS. When we started a project in the NE we dealt with one woman who was responsible for commissioning services. She was a 'take no prisoners' kind of girl, but bloody good at her job and a straight up operator. When she left they decided her job was too much work for one person so they split it, between four people. Who were all paid the same salary as she was on approx. £40k. Any one who has ever tried to get a decision through a committee knows the more people on it, the less you get done. Two years later the PCT's took over and they also decided that the job of Commissioning was too much for four people, I should say at this stage there had been no real increase or decrease in work load during the period, so the job that was previously done by four people was split among SIXTEEN people. All on just under £60k. So in the course of three years we had gone from speaking to one person to having to try and arrange a meeting with 16 people and then to get them all to agree. These meetings had to be held for the most trivial of things as well. The cost to the tax payer had gone from £40k pa to over £900K and the amount of work being done had nose dived. This was around the time the recession was really biting in 07-09 and Social Services budgets were being slashed and care hours were being cut down to levels that were literally dangerous. I could give more examples, but I dare say I would set a new record for longest post on the forum ever!

I admit my experiences are based solely on one branch of Social Services in the North East and I don't mean to generalise about everyone who works in Social Services UK wide, and for the record, I have a hell of a lot of respect for Doctors and Nurses, but all of the above is, hand on heart, the truth and hopefully shows just how piss poorly run the NHS is.

I've got no axe to grind about the NHS but comparing it now to how it was under the late stages of the Tory Government it's light years better. My wife has a serious medical issue and I used to be terrified to use the NHS whereas now I might not like our regular trips to clinics and A&E but I don't fear for her health any more. I'm sure they could improve, they're far from perfect but they've moved ahead dramatically in recent times.

Saw this on Facebook today and it reminded me of this thread. This is the problem with democracy - a large proportion of the planet are genuinely this stupid. Just like a dictatorship would be brilliant if the dictator wasn't an asshole, democracy is only a good idea if the people voting have a brain, hence why Donald Trump is doing so well in America.

People are really dumb, that facebook post is killer :D
I was not decided until the last few days, i'm leaning more to the pro Europe side of the fence now, i must admit anything that pan face moron cameroon thinks is good for the country i'd normally be dead against, but seeing the brexit gang out campaining made me think twice, IDS, Pattel, who between them seem to want to wipe out the disabled and anyone infirm, the rest of them are not that great either, all seems to be people who would no longer have to worry about pesky human rights issues when pushing through new policies if there was no pesky EU laws there to stop them.

I want to stay in the EU because if we leave we'll see mass de-regulation and lowering of standards.
The only reason 'the money' wants to leave is so they can set their own standards for their own industries. I.e. lower the **** out of them. The second we leave the lobbyists will be banging on Boris's door.

Demanding to:

  • Reduce working standards
    Reduce animal welfare standards
    Reduce food standards
    Reduce health and safety
    Reduce emissions and environmental standards
Treat migrant workers differently (i.e. pay them less and give them reduced employment law rights)

Call me a patriotic nationalist but I believe the UK should have the highest standards in the world. **** the money grabbing bastards.

Yeap, the sad thing is the vast majority of the British public, and the same goes for every country, are ****ing retards who are so stupid they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I read an article the other day, basically saying that communism could work, but human nature gets in the way. Slight flaw!

I think what people forget is that whether we are in or out of the EU, we live in a world of globalisation. We are in competition for trade with countries all around the world and that will not change. So I don't think leaving the EU will result suddenly in an increase in working class old fashioned jobs of manufacturing. As a country we need to invest in jobs which are creative and work to the strengths of our country, and then see of being in the EU helps that case or not. I'm not an expert on EU legislation but I suspect being in the EU would be the best answer.

this is like deja vu from the scottish referendum , i was torn on that 1 changing my mind on a daily basis . in the end i flipped the question round and asked myself if scotland was independant would i vote to join the UK . the answer was yes for me

so now i ask myself if britain was not in the EU would i vote to join , the answer is absolutely not .

im not educated enough on the pro's and con's everything you read is either 50/50 or fully biased.

the immigration thing doesnt bother me at all, i welcome any immigrant who wants to come and work, kick out all of our own deadbeats and we can do a swap :)

my concern is the way EU is power based, and are we being run by power hungry a-holes, i know our own government is **** so id hate to be stuck in the EU with no way out, and with Obama chirping in and telling us what to do i wanted to vote out lol.

the idea of not paying billions to stay in the EU and investing in the NHS sounds great, but like i said without a proper breakdown, im 50/50 and thats the way the government want it, if you are not sure you stick with the safe bet. and they get their cash EU pensions and expenses.

Weasel posted about the NHS and them complaining something along the lines that they are skint while the reality is incompetence and, if anything, over funding in some areas. I can say the same for the police.

I worked in the cops for nearly 12 years and can honestly say I've never worked with lazier, overpaid people in my life. Don't get me wrong, not everyone is lazy. Just the top brass and neighbourhood teams. Waste of public money. I always used to think 'if only the public really knew'.

This so, so, so many times over. I work in a company which truly is diverse. I'm part of a team which over the years has included people from Greece, India, Pakistan, China, Malaysia, Denmark and the USA just to name a few countries. Hell, we've even got a Lancastrian. In all cases it's not your COO which defines your work ethic.

I'm with BadMotivator on this one. I think the amount by which the EU 'interferes' in our daily lives in a negative way is massively overplayed. However, the thought of a Tory government given free reign to deregulate the UK how they see fit terrifies me. If the day came when Boris (oh how I detest him) and Trump were in power and the UK were not part of the EU... I'd be seriously considering emigrating.

You'll still have to pay into the EU. Maybe not quite as much, maybe as much, that will have to be negotiated. But all this talk of leaving and getting to keep the money we pay the EU, is wrong. They'll demand some form of payment to get access to the EFTA. Norway and Switzerland both pay. Put it like this, do you really see the French saying "sure, come on in and enjoy the benefits and don't worry about paying any money!" I suspect quite a few European Governments will get very petty and try and settle a score if Britain leaves, the Belgian PM has already said as much. We are the awkward man if Europe after all.

I've no massively strong feelings either way, and i'm not on the elctoral roll so I won't be voting. But I know enough to be able to say MOST of what the leave AND stay camps are saying is horribly twisted or just down right lies.

The most important question for me if we leave the EU
Is....

Will I end up having to pay import tax on my star wars from European countries?

Priorities folks.
