For me it was probably a couple of years after Jedi. Never got into the last 17 was pretty much done by then as were most kids round my way. Was more interested in riding my bike and setting fires.
Still have everyone of my childhhod figs (with all the weapins in a baccy tin) & ships in good condition though so had some foresight...

same here mate last 17 did not even show on the raidar for me, stopped collecting during jedi release really.
got the odd jedi figure then just stopped. discovered girls and all that but i still sometimes popped down to my local toy store and bought the odd one if i liked the look of it.

about 84 for me at age 14, got in to music girls & my air rifles & pretty much grew my way out of the hobby, I remember a few years later turning up at a friends house on my motor bike (my first) & laughing out loud at him when he got his new last 17 figures with the new £1.59 price tag sticker on them out along with his imperial shuttle 87 that was, I never bought a single POTF carded, it was pretty much all SW & ESB stuff for me, though on reflection that laughter has come back at me with what they fetch now, the laughter was as he did not want to come out on the pull, rather than play with his toys though, I wonder if he still has them.

Great thread topic!

For me, I think it was around 1984, but for different reasons. As a mere 10 year-old I think my head had been turned by that blatant toy merchandising scheme that was He-man. I bought some of the last 17, both Lukes, pop-up R2 - I remember disliking the tri-logo cards because they had foreign writing on them!

Thankfully the infatuation with He-man didn't last, I think I sold ALL of my He-man stuff (Greyskull, figures, ships, the lot!) for £20 so I could buy Transformers back in '85.

1990  ahhhhh italy 90 pearce, gascoigne, platt, barnes.....also the year i also stopped buying all the local kids starwars collections

I remember going into Woolworths and seeing the last 17 figures when they came out, but not being that bothered about them. I remember being more drawn to transformers and MASK at the time.

I remember Christmas 1984, aged 12 getting 8D8 and the Jabba playset. Think that was the last time I got star wars for either Christmas or Birthday. Summer of 85 I got 3 of the last 17..A wing Pilot, Anakin and Imperial dig (funnily enough the crappiest 3 of them) But I think that was more to do with the fact that they were really cheap and I'd never seen them before rather than being still into SW as much. I'd kept all my figures and vehicles, even stuff from the late 70's, but had moved onto model making, toy trains and toy soldiers. This was probably due to the fact that my dad was into them and he was an engineer for Matchbox and other friends who were slightly older had also moved on to them.

Didn't buy star wars again until 92 when I started collecting officially. But that's another story for another thread!

Some point soon after Jedi, Like theslider I got into collecting He-Man/A-Team figures at that point. Moved onto BMX Riding so that put an end to the figure collecting. I can still remember going to a Car Boot sale in my old school with my Mam and selling the lot for about £20, old Irish Punts.... I think i bought new football boots with the csah......I started again about 4 Years ago but had to sell everything a couple of years back due to circumstances and only really got back seriously collecting after being introduced to this Forum by Iain a while back....... :D Fully addicted again now

I think around early 1985 I started playing with Gobots and Technic Lego so put my Star Wars stuff away for years to come!!
Rem Dad saying 'If those figures were in their packets they may be worth £10-20 each in years to come

I stopped collecting when i started taking the Sun newspaper to the loo and getting a twinge looking at Sam Fox:)

I remember 84 being my last SW xmas, and that Leia Boussh was the last figure i ever pulled from a card.Ironic that i went to my parents house in 2003 determined to find anything vintage related in my old loft, that this figure and my at-at bulb cover were all i found.Mum had given my collection away in around 87 but i wanted to try to find something atleast.

I was pissed she gave it away but heavy metal, guitars and girls took the pain away.

The main reason I stopped collecting Star Wars was the local seaside arcades being packed with brilliant and highly addictive games. I saved all birthday and xmas stuff to get a Commodore 64. Marvellous machine.

I actually remember the day my parents took all of our Star Wars toys to the tip, it was in about 1989. They were all smashed to **** so they weren't worth keeping, but I remember within seconds of chucking them in there were people rummaging through the boxes. I was about 8 at the time, and was more in to MASK stuff.

After writing this I was going through some old Vinyl yesterday and out of the stacks of records came the last thing I ever bought a Tri Logo One Man Sail Skiff box all nicely flattened.

I remember going into Debenhams with my Dad and brother and seeing the last 17 and all these mini-rigs which they were selling off cheap about £1.25 I think we were growing out of it all by then but at that price.....so instead of grabbing a last 17 for £1.50 we went for a Mini-Rig each, me the Skiff, my brother that Endor Transport. Happy Days

Isn't it funny that at the time it probably seemed far more logical/better value for money/better investment to buy the cool looking boxed vehicle, rather than the shitty pope looking figure. How wrong we were

About 84/85 stopped collecting - last figure I got was General Lando Calrissian (last 17) because I liked the cape and it was going cheap.

About this time got a ZX 48k Spectrum and started to save money to buy games for this instead.
Games such as - Daley Thompson's Decathlon, Hungary Horace, Atic Atac, Manic Miner etc
