I keep reading that Palitoy MOCs are desirable and lately i've found myself with a couple completely by chance. This good fortune has been pleasing but then i had the thought, 'what actually makes them better than Kenner cards?'. I just assume they were released in fewer numbers. Is that the case? What makes a Palitoy cardback so great? 8)

Cheers dudes

It's all subjective. For us in the UK though these were our cards. And clearly there would have been a lot less made then the Kenner ones. I know many US collectors who are not interested in Palitoy and they don't command the same interest in all places.

Really? These are what we had in the UK?

I did not know that. I thought they were US release and hence why they are scarce over here. Shows what i know. So did Palitoy produce ROTJ cards. Because i definitely don't remember Palitoy ROTJ cards and bought loads of them as a kid.

The logo disappeared from the front of the cards (during the ESB's I think). There was plenty of Kenners over here to.

I agree, I grew up with that red and blue logo... in fact, I can confidently say it was my first experience of brand loyalty at the tender age of 8. From '78 onwards, when I ran into my local toyshop and saw shelves stocked with that Star Wars branding and Palitoy logo- everything felt right with the world

Hence, when the Kenner stuff started to appear in stock some years later, I felt tremendously let down- obviously at that young age not realising it was Kenner product all along. Still, some 30-odd years later... when I see Palitoy, my heart sings... and when I see Kenner, I can't help but think 'IMPOSTER!' Some feelings are difficult to shake off from your formative years... :D

I'm slowly beginning to realise I'm not going to be able to afford a Palitoy MOC first 20 run, ever... but I can but dream.

IMO...the logo itself is awesome. From an American standpoint.....after you have bought 99% of what Kenner had to offer...it is time to move onto bigger and better things

You never know. That's the beauty of it.

I've had only one palitoy bargain, but have had some outrageous fortune.

It's what we clickity click that mouse for

It is the basic supply v demand, same with pretty much everything in this hobby.

For UK collectors there is the obvious nostalgia

For others there is the rarity attraction or that they are different to the more available Kenner and represent a new line to start.

They are on a major high at the moment. At other times they haven't been

Here's the complete cardback run from SW through to trilogo

45a was the last of the logo. That is generally what makes them so sought after.

While rarer than Kenner in most cases, they are not all as rare as people think, just very highly sort after so hit high prices when they surface on eBay. But loads sell behind the scenes, again often for high prices
