Who's Who - Introduce yourself!

HI all,

Thought it was about time I introduced myself. l'm Richard, 38 years old, married with two young boys from Ayrshire in Scotland. Loved Star Wars my whole life and got into collecting vintage 14 months ago. Like most my childhood collection was sold and I had thought about trying to get some of it back for years, but thought the prices were too high. Ended up collecting other toy lines and some modern star wars instead.

Then I discovered 10 loose figures from my childhood that had escaped the sale. That got me started on collecting a 96 loose run which is now a Luke Stormie helmet away from completion. Along the way I have picked up lots of loose varients and also started to collect MOC's & boxed playsets. So after originally deciding a vintage collection would be too expensive l am now in deep, when prices are at there highest and totally hooked. Thoroughly enjoying it though and looking forward to growing my collection and getting more involved in the hobby.

Thanks for having me and thanks for providing a great forum which I now visit daily.

Hi All :)

I'm Tom - English, but currently living in Prague. Been a Star Wars fan since receiving Han Solo Hoth Gear in 1980 :D Had nearly all the loose figures when I was a kid - and luckily held on to those, although the ships and bigger pieces ended up going.

Recently attended Star Wars Celebration and got the collecting bug again - especially due to learning lots at the Collector Panels, which were very cool.

Looking forward to some interesting discussions!

Felt a bit new to say hello before, but as it's nearly been a year since I joined, I can now say.........hello to all newbies :D

Fantastic to see new members joining, great advice is given on here, great comradery, some fantastic collections and limelight threads.

Loads of advice on the places and sellers to avoid, conversely the places and sellers to deal with.
Most of all a great forum to become a part of, that is inclusive, supportive and informative :D

Have fun, and enjoy your passion with like minded collectors, that's the key :D

Hi Folks

AL Bundy here massive Star Wars fan and I have started collecting the vintage figures again, after having all the figures as a kid and foolishly getting rid of them.

My collection is going to be kept relatively small due to room , but I will be asking for advice on storage and restoration.

Thanks in advance for any advice provided.

AL

Greetings everyone !

Just joined the forum. Having been a lifelong fan and now in my early forties I can finally afford to start building my collection again.
Based in Suffolk, strong with the force I shall hopefully start buying again my childhood toys.
Oh and realising that the SW toys I had could have financed a small revolution in Cuba if I still had them! Thanks everyone and I look forward to getting involved

Hello everyone, Gordon here.

Same as most, had vintage as a kid, and had got rid of most of them.

Started collecting again 1997/1998, got some of my old vintage down from the loft which were half a dozen figures, and a taun taun.
Really started to collect everything Star Wars related, POTF (Red / Green cards), TPF, AOTC, ROTJ, Saga, all new vehicles, mini busts, statues, lightabers etc etc, as well as adding to vintage. Even back then stupidly bought more new lines, you were still picking these up cheaper than vintage were, and now have boxes of carded TPF, AOTC figures which are only worth a few pounds each!
Back then should have concentrated on Vintage, as you were getting carded for £5 + and were still more readily available than now.
I remember going to Toy Fairs where i live near Falkirk, and Toy Fairs in Edinburgh and Glasgow and still plenty of vintage around.

Anyway now started to re-focus on Vintage and have all 77 + 3 of last 17, albeit some are not complete and some have dreaded Repro weapons, Aim is to complete these and try and pick up some more MOC's - Have a grand total of 4 now!.... but getting there.

Can't believe how expensive the Vintage has become however even in the last 5 years and how some figures have dramatically increased in value.

Trying to sell of some of my newer stuff as much as i can to raise some funds, but dosent seem to be a great market for it these days.

This site however is excellent, full of really good advice on all vintage matters, lots of experienced collectors to bounce questions off and has re-kindled my interest in this great hobby!! Keep the great work up!

Welcome Al, Jay and Gordon. Good to see even more joining. In a world of FB and other weird social media stuff this Forum just keeps getting more popular, so you've come to the right place.

Gordon, great intro, mate. Your story has been repeated a hundred times on these pages! Don't worry about your flirtation with the modern stuff; Vintage is a forgiving wife if modern is the bunny-boiling mistress (looks great but scratch the surface and her problems are legion). You may actually be surprised and find that the modern does hold a little sentimentality that you didn't expect. After all, vintage was your first childhood and it probable that the modern in '95 onward was the first time that childhood passion was reignited. I've been back collecting a short while and in the last few months have found modern has got it's own appeal. I've even started picking up the Freeze Frame MOCs from the late 90s when they've been cheap enough. Just waiting for another box full to come over from the US now :)

Anyway, whatever path you choose, light or dark, you'll find a whole load of folk here that are sharing that journey.

Have fun, fellas, get involved, buy toys and ask daft questions.
