Hi Guys - Finally getting round to introduce myself!

I'm Andy 39 (already!) Married with 2 kids and one on the way.
I've been collecting vintage stuff for a couple of years now, mainly figures (carded and loose) focusing on quality now rather than quantity.
I love some of the old packaging (sweet wrappers etc) and ads from the era. (Although they command quite a premium!)
Will put some pics on here soon.

Great to see Andy (chazb73) on board - I got to know him a little while ago we have pm'd each other on a regular basis since I sold him one of my Palitoy's- great bloke all round

Right, so this is where i introduce myself..... i hijacked an ebay thread the other day as i couldnt find the newbie thread :oops:

Single dad of two littlens and younger brother of The Goon who is going under the false alias of Junior Chubb.

Collecting loose complete figures at present and i have a long way to go, so will be on the look out for some bargains and will hopefully be able to avoid ebay once and for all.

I was 8 when Star Wars came out, which might just be the perfect age to see it. I saw The Empire Strikes Back in the Empire Leicester Square in 1980 and that was fairly terrifying to be honest. But I wasn't watching a film, I was in that snow speeder. Jedi in 1983 was great in parts but it didn't even come close to the impact of the other two. I love it now of course. I think the prequel films are great. Not all we hoped for but if we were 8 again how cool would they seem? My nephew saw ep 3 when he was 8 and was freaked out by the burning amputee Anakin scene! I'm personally optimistic about the Disney take over. George has had his day and Disney have been really smart with Marvel.

I'm 43, married with two kids and have recently returned to the UK from working abroad as an advertising copywriter. I have a big thing for Lotus cars and Kawasaki motorcycles. I currently have an Elise and a ZZR1400 which is the nearest thing I'll ever get to an endor forest speeder bike!

I've never seriously collected Star Wars toys, I've always wanted a collection of Japanese toy robots but never got round to starting it. Giving some serious thought to completing a collection of large figures. I think the detailing on them is outstanding, beautifully made and heck they actually look like the movie actors! As a kid I was always fascinated by the large figures and for a collection they should be a bit more affordable than the really sought after stuff.

I have plenty to put in the classifieds here from a stash found in my Granny's house. Her name was Joyce. She was the kindest, most generous Granny anyone ever had. And she had great taste in toys! I'd like her to be remembered here. I must find a picture of her to post. I still miss her.

Sorry, a bit over sentimental there! I guess I'm just grateful to her looking around at all the toys she bought. All I did was have the sense to hang on to them! She was a cool Granny though. I think she was quite into toys in her own way. I'm very thankful.
 
Howdy! I'm Dan, aka StarwarsDan, from the US. Been bumping around the Rebelscum website for a while, heard a lot of good things about SWFUK and finally got curious! So here I am.

I did not pick this nickname. It found me. When I went off to college in the late 1990s, one of the first things I did was scope out the local comicbook and toy shops. The owner of one South Philadelphia shop had so many customers named Dan, he had a hard time keeping track of what everyone wanted. So he started referring to all the Dan's by their interest. There was BatmanDan, SpidermanDan, a few others I can't recall any longer, and yours truly. Well I don't know what happened to that place, if it's still there (I hope it is!), or the other various Dan's, but in my case, the name stuck.

I missed out on star wars when it came out. I have vague memories of seeing Return of the Jedi in the theater during original release. I was a very sheltered child with arty hippie parents, and we just did not do mainstream pop culture that much. I began collecting star wars seriously in 1990. I still have some receipts from the first couple of years of some of my prize pieces.

But I found it at a good time to collect- kids of the 70s and 80s were starting to get rid of their stuff, you could still buy action figures at yardsales for 10 cents, carded figs, sealed and boxed toys could be had at very reasonable prices (in hindsight), and my antiquing, pack-rat-hoarder (I mean that in a good way) mother took us kids to all of the flea markets, rummage sales, estate auctions, and even trash picks (dare I say it?) you could shake a stick at!

By the time I got out of high school I was a professional vendor on the local toy show circuit in Pennsylvania, NY, and New Jersey, where I grew up. I was 16 I believe when I did my only Star Trek convention as a vendor with a booth in the sales room. I put all of that away in the late 90s when I went off to college, stopped collecting and sold a few things off. The bug never quite left however. I rented a small glass showcase in a local consignment antique gallery where I kept a handful of items as a sideline hobby over the years.

Eventually the publishers of Judith Miller priceguides came in and liked my stuff, so some of my star wars collection as well as other toys and collectibles can be seen in their guides from 2003 through 2008. Unfortunately they no longer send people around that particular market scouting for items for the guides, and the market is on the verge of closure. But it was a lot of fun while it lasted!

I recently moved from Philadelphia back to NJ and I guess as I get older, collecting star wars again became a part of going back to my roots. 20 years later I am still completely fascinated by every aspect of it. Starting over with my collection seriously after a 12-year break.

I've opened a little shop on the Etsy platform to retail star wars and other vintage toys and collectibles, under the same name, starwarsdan, just like I always used to do at the antiques mall in Philly and the flea markets and toy shows before that.

In my professional life, I am an decorative painter, refinisher and antique furniture conservator, although sometimes that borders dismally on good old-fashioned used furniture sales.

In my other professional life, I am a poet. My most recently published piece can be found in Painted Bride Quarterly. My father and grandfather before me were both widely published authors. I talk too much and type fast, so I apologize in advance if my posts and responses are "wordy".

Hi All,

Been a browser of this forum for some time and really like the tone and the banter that I see taking place.

I've never really stoped collecting Star Wars toys, had them as a kid, and was lucky enough for my parents to not only save them but to keep all the boxes for my vehicles!! Bless them! I was always trading Transformers for more Star Wars toys even in the late 80's then really went mad at a Blue Peter Bring and Buy sale in the early 90's - picking up most of the POTF figures I didn't already have as well as a boxed Slave 1, Falcon and AT-AT - my folks weren't too pleased about that!. Since then I drifted in and out of collecting Star Wars but in the last 10 years have been targeting gaps in my collection and trying to focus a bit more - currently tracking down POTF coins!!
Looking forward to being an active member of the UK collecting community and making new buddies here on the forum!
