Who's Who - Introduce yourself!

Hi all,

What I think is not an uncommon story - massive SW fan as a kid and got back into things when my own son turned 5 and got bitten by the bug. For some reason I'd always kept a fair amount of childhood stuff and dragged it around wherever I lived without ever really looking at it. Its the usual bog standard fare including an ESB boxed Falcon, loose figures, Death Star (box-less and plastic free), boxed droid Factory and X-Wing etc.

A couple of things which I haven't seen much of;

* Denys Fisher R2 in original box with red insert and Death Star plans (haven't seen many on Ebay but you've all probably got one!)
* Original New Hope cinema poster. This was given to me by a friend's uncle who worked at the local ABC in 1977/8 after the initial cinema run had finished. Was on my bedroom wall for about 6 years and then folded up, buried deep inside a box of SW Weeklys and forgotten about until rediscovered when I started getting back into things 9 months ago.

Would like to reconstruct my original collection which included Vader Tie Fighter and Land of the Jawa set. Palitoy MOC stuff is probably going to be out my league but I might try to get some card backs if the prices ever calm down. I remember like it was yesterday that Easter Sunday morning in 1978 when my brother and I unwrapped our first ever Easter presents. I got Luke and C3PO and he got Han and Chewie. Being a couple of years younger he didn't object in the slightest when I insisted on an immediate swap! I also remember carefully parting the bubble from the card just enough to get the figure out and insisting my brother did the same as even the packaging seemed precious. Obviously not to my Mum who insisted on binning them as "We don't keep rubbish in this house!" To this day that still smarts although I pretty much managed to keep a fair bit from ESB onwards.

Perhaps controversially I let my son play with most of my stuff! Compared to some of the modern toys they seems almost indestructible (boxes are kept out of reach). Its great just watching him play for hours in the same way I did (still joining in when he lets me) and after all, thats what they were made for . . .

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. I too am very new here but everyone seems friendly and helpful.

I too have a collection of loose figures from my childhood. I have the boxes of vehicles safe and sound but do let my nephews play with the figures and ships as I did as a kid. Probably get a few frowns but they are all in used condition.

I am currently trying to collect an original palitoy cardback for each figure.

Good luck with your collection!

Cheers

JediMark

Welcome Mark and JediMark :D

I am sure you will both enjoy SWFUk and lose some spare cash in the process

Welcome guys, I like to hear stories of first SW experiences. Its good to see the kids playing with the same figures (mine only get to play with the beaters though  )

Thanks, I think my Nephews are starting to get annoyed with me as every time they come round I say lets play with the Star Figures.

I think I enjoy it far more then they do.

Hi everyone,

I've been into the Original Trilogy for years and have just started picking up a few old toys. Mostly it's stuff I wish I'd had as a kid, and other stuff to replace what my mum threw out.

I've a lot of loose stuff - a complete set of figures (well 96, is that a complete set here?), all the tie fighters, land of the Jawas, Palitoy Death Star, a few odds and ends.

I'd like to try and find a working radio controller Sandcrawler without breaking the bank, plus maybe get in to some boxed vehicles. I love the old packaging.

When I was growing up I live opposite a toy shop and would just sit in the SW aisle after school. Shop keeper didn't mind, he even let me put out a new delivery of Jedi figures once. I was the first kid to have Boushh in school. It's all been downhill since then.

Hi Dantooine welcome to the forum :D

Well 96 could be a complete set, but if you do not want all the playsets. Then blue snaggletooth and R2-D2 from the droid factory could be no. 97 and 98.

There is also the droids and ewoks figures from the cartoon series if you want them :D
