Pretty obvious question maybe but I was just wondering how everyone managed to come across some of the more desired star wars figures.

There's Ebay, toy fairs, car boots and on here which is great but are there anymore places to look where you may stumble on some gems?

Many thanks.

Thanks Star geezer. I have mentioned it to a few friends but with no luck yet.

I used to go to car boot sales and use Ebay then eventually SWFUK.

The I had a brainstorm, I got my brother into back into vintage Star Wars, now he buys and delivers figures for me, he has even generated the funds himself by selling some of our other childhood toys.

I have recently had an Amanaman and Luke Stormie delivered by hand to me.

Cheers Mumbo

I wish I could have a Luke storm trooper delivered by hand, that would be great.

You will find a lot of the top desirable stuff changes hands privately amongst collectors

I used to get some good bits from the Loot website, also smaller toy fairs. Through one of these, I got most of the figures I needed to complete a set from a guy who had a stand there. His prices were great, he even gave me a vinyl caped jawa for free, it does have a little tear on the cape corner. I saw it on the floor at his house, assumed he would want quite a bit for it, when I asked him, he just gave it to me and said it was worth nothing. This was 16 years ago though! Carboots sometimes a few bits too, not often though.

i never really hunt for the more highly saught after stuff as i cant afford it so i dont bother with toy fairs or conventions etc for buying at all anymore as they are just normally hugely overpriced or right on their money items as are all or most of the online stores are aswel :cry:as such theres no urgency to buy from them as you have nothing to loose buy waiting to fnd cheaper ,hence most of the overpriced or bang on the value big dealers and shops of the past have now dissapeared or closed up shop with the introduction of the likes of ebay private sales & online sales between fans :P ebay is where ive spent years finding bargains at an actual nice or very reasonable prices .and as im just looking for the stuff thats not particulary rare it makes sense,
i still find vtg stuff now usually much less than the price i would have have paid from a dealer or toy stall holder or scifi shop owner 10 or 15 years ago, for example the past 14 days roughly on ebay i got the sealed leia hoth moc i posted pic of on latest purchses thread for just £33.45 delivered which was a genuine bargain evn tho the card is a little rough, a vtg spanish greedo sealed on a a very nice condition jedi card for £42 delivered and i got my first vtg jumbo giant death star droid 2 days ago for £50 delivered whch is the cheapest ive ever seen it ,if i had of bought say these 3 items from anywhere other than ebay the price i paid would have been about £70-100 quid more , not long ago i got a beautiful mint condition trilogo A-wing pilot moc for just 40 delivered and when i say mint i mean bubble and card are case fresh 8)
for these reasons i stick to ebay now . which of course can come with its problems now and again tho

I feel your pain brother  this hobby just becomes more expensive by the month.

Got to add though, Farthest From is a great place to pick up some vintage bits at more reasonable prices than the average toy fair, not always the rarest pieces but good prices and sellers open to a haggle. You just have to put up with all the SWFUK muppets for the day.

im one of these guys thats not a haggler unless i feel i really have to have a specific item .but to me if your price is high or overly high on 1st sight from the start i walk past thinking i will get that cheaper loads of places or hes a greedy bstrd :P so even if i got it cheaper by haggling or it was reduced most of the time on principal i wouldnt wanna line his pockets with a penny after his intial greed so dont bother hahha
to be honest there is not a cheaper price than ebay price 99% of the time.
reminds me i was up london a few months back went in a shop he had some loose kinda beat up no weapons figures prices at £8-15 each .i dont collect loose so was just admiring anyway he shouts over you buy 10 you get the cheapest free like he was doing me a favour  . i shouts back i go online right now, right here, stood in your shop and buy all of between £1-£3 each delivered and that was that lol

Has anyone tried placing an ad in their local paper? You know, "wanted - vintage Star Wars toys, in boxes preferably. Cash waiting". You never know who could be sitting on some Palitoy gold.
Of course most replies, if any will lead to a pile of disappointment. But then you could hit the jackpot :D

A lot of the thrill of the hunt has gone out of collecting if you ask me. Used to be great wandering round car boot sales the odd sales/want ad.

Just Ebay and SWFUK these days. Don't even have to leave the house :|

 So true...

its the same with nearly everything though, high street retail is slowly dying. Making our shop brought MOC's even more special.

i went into a local shop the other day and saw loose beaters @ £5-13. i thought these were expensive but what you have to bear in mind is that these small shops dont get much custom because of the internet and have too charge those prices to pay shop rent and what not. it was pleasing too see vintage starwars in shop though i would of bought one just because i had the oppurtunity to hold one in my hand and not a screen but none took my fancy
