What's the mentality of paying more for loose?

**** yes, even with those two
I wouldn't pay a premium for someone elses opinion full stop, I have bought one graded loose figure and one graded MOC and didn't care for either. If you want a graded set buy nice figures and get them graded yourself, if you just like the cases then buy nice figures and get some GW acrylic cases for them.
I believe the going rate for the full 96 is 3.5 to 4K although a little compromise, patience and luck should allow you to complete the set for under 3K ungraded

Personally I do not have the knowledge or experience to differentiate between original and reproduction weapons and after reading some posts the float test does not always work as some repro's float and some originals sink. I also read that there is a shortage of original weapons. I also am not that confident in grading the loose condition of a figure so it seems easier and less stressful to buy a graded set. What do you think a fair price would be for the 10K set on eBay?

Thanks for your help

Without knowledge how do you know they're rare? Because the nice man selling them said they were?
Best of luck to you but with that attitude you stand to get royally fleeced.

This isn't my first Rodeo I have collected before, I have a reasanoble knowledge of what's rare as I have owned most of the rare items previously.

I'm not sure what this sentence is most full of, arrogance or BS. As I said previously, best of luck.
EDIT - I forgot stupidity

I don't need your luck or help. I will post my collection soon and then we shall see who's stupid!

I have met some great people on this site and some obnoxious ones also.

I can already see that

I don't particularly want to argue or fall out with anyone. I realise I am not the type of person that treads on eggshells and I am probably not everyones cup of tea but I do appreciate you answering my questions and sharing your knowledge with me.

That is what the forum is all about to share info with each other, help each other and to have fun :D

Not that I understand why people want to pay more for afa or ukgrading or why people will have graded items. But then again I am sure there is many out there that do not understand why I collect variants

I pay more for graded items as I feel more confident that the items are correct and are of the standard I want. Hopefully when I become more knowledgeable I will feel more comfortable in buying ungraded pieces.

When I collected the first time I also collected loose variants probably not to the same detail as you though.

if you fear that you buy repro or wrong weapon/cloth for the variant figures you buy then you can always take pictures and add them to the forum
then I am sure people will help you to ID the items for you so seller to not trick you.

About grading I have heard they also make mistakes and grade repro.

You can also hunt childhood lots as I do then you can be sure everything is original :D

about standard you can always ask seller for more pictures

Wreck-it Ralph: I got back into vintage SW a few years ago after a 12-year gap, and some things have changed a lot. COOs, more knowledge of variants, stuff being easier to source than ever before, the number of people collecting... Unfortunately the biggest change is the prices people are asking. Prices have risen exponentially.

The thing to do mate is take it steady and educate yourself. There are web resources out there that we didn't have 15/20 years ago. Spend some time perusing The Imperial Gunnery to familiarise yourself with what's genuine and what's repro and you'll save yourself a fortune not buying graded. People on here are also happy to help - it's a great community. Remember that no grading company guarantees the authenticity of the item they've graded!

Prices are ridiculous now, even compared to 6 months ago. It takes time but (just like in the old days) the satisfaction of reading up and building a collection over time far outweighs dropping an amount of money on a ready-made collection.

I don't think the size of your collection is any indicator of your level of stupidity :D

That was a dumb post by me, I sound like a total tit saying things like that.

Correct.

IMO buying graded loose stuff is for mugs though, I've picked up the odd AFA/UKG loose 80s and they're pretty run of the mill condition-wise. Just treble the price for a plastic box with a sticker. I can understand grading if you are picking up high end stuff.

As for everything being too expensive, it is! But if you want to sell me your loose minty Leia O's for 80 quid (or whatever you think they should be because you picked yours up for 30 quid ten years ago) then PM me and I will take it off your hands - because that's where we are now in 2017!

Obviously it is a lot cheaper to collect a full set of loose than Mocs, and most of them are fairly cheap, with the exception of a few figures which are tougher to get minty and loose. Therefore it is understandable that a *few* loose figures are reaching a premium price - in an odd way they are 'rarer' minty than they are on MOC, so perhaps not surprising that the price is creeping up to near parity on *some* figures.
