whats the big deal with the vinyl caped jawa

I can see the point with a carded version but why so much for a loose one I mean its not really as rare as people say, there were 100s upon 100s of these made before the switch over and alot even made it to the UK and it seems to me the only reason people want this is because its rarer than the cloth cape one but certainly in my opinion anyway not worthy of a 30 times more money than the cloth cape one but some people have orgasms over it

for example people say the revenge proofs are not that rare but given the fact there are only roughly 50 of each that is pretty rare in my opinion, people seem to think other things are more rarer than others when there are more about

its great to see people who want a vinyl jawa get one and nothing against them as I get graded figures that cost more even though most I get graded myself and people question mark that but to each their own I say lol now shall I delete this topic

I do like the toltoys one as that is rare, but you do see a lot of vinyl jawas flying around to say they are so rare, and prices have got ridiculous, i think £250 for a mint one is ok as you can pay a lot for yak face, amanaman ect, or even u90 figures as they sell for ridiculous amounts.
Ive seen a badly carded death star droid sell for about £60 with a 90 grade figure, and then seen a u90 death star droid sell for £250!!! doesnt make sense.

I begrudge paying it but feel like i need to have one in my collection still!

Yeah when you put it like that it sounds daft...but i still like chasing original ones, i suppose its like any variant of a figure being worth more than the other.

It the cloth cape come out first then the changed to a VC. We would all pay silly money for the cloth cape version in the way we currently do for the VC.

I can see Lee's point, it is an excessive amount to pay for just a cape. But then the reason people pay it is (as Bollux said) beause people don't feel right with repro's and don't feel their collection is complete without a 'real' one.

TF I don't collect loose figures..............cos obviously a carded one isn't gonna cost me two arms and a leg! :roll:

part of what you are buying is a piece of star wars history, more so than with any standard figure.

but also, assuming the one you buy is legit, you are paying for peace of mind, as there are so many fakes about.

It's all relative, something is only rare in relation to something else. There are more cloth than VC so it is rarer than those, but there are so many more things in the hobby that are far rarer!!!

A lot of the time it's just to do with charging a premium. Same reason why people always emphasise 'Last 17'

Exactly....its the same with the blue snaggletooth, quoted as extremely rare, yet you could pick one up any day of the week on ebay, wording like this drives the prices up as new collectors pay higher prices and all other sellers raise their price to make that bit more money.
I myself have sold snaggletooths as rare, other sellers try to make more money out of the 'dent in toe' varient..i think its down to the buyers knowledge. When i first started out i overpaid for figures as i wasnt aware of what prices were good or not.

I agree the word "rare" is used to much in our hobby. With very few exceptions, MOC Uzay Headman, a number of "Production" figures are not that rare. Hard to find; yes, but not rare. I do not own a MOC VC jawa. One reason, price!! Why would I pay upwards of 3K for a nice carded, when that same money could buy me a number of other carded jawas.

The point of it being a part of "Star Wars" history is a good one. I remember seeing a post a few years back on RS, stating that under 10,000 MOC VC jawas were produced. If this is accurate and you factor 30+ years have passed, than I wonder how many are left?? Hard to find, yes.. Truly rare, **** no!!

I know due to damage of the cape and the ease of faking, the price of the VC is greatly affected, but how does the production run of VC jawas compare to the run of Small head hans?
