This has probably been posted before but I would love to hear your opinions on what the best of the originals is and why?

Mine is Empire - it's darker, cleverer and has a better narrative

(I was chatting to a guy (not on here) who thinks the CGI yoda is better than the puppet is Empire :? )

As a kid, I would have said Jedi. It was crammed with aliens, a fat slug, speeder bikes, leia was in a bikini, the emperor died etc. Now all I tend to see is ewoks, and though I don't hate them, their whole kid friendly merchandise intention kinda ruins the narrative. Whilst we have a serious fight between vader and luke and luke being goaded by palpatine and being tempted by the dark side, it really bugs me that it cuts to a bunch of little bears fighting stormtroopers. It just makes the whole vader/palpatine/luke scene seem less serious and suspenseful. Meh maybe its just me. But it did have leia in a bikini. :D

Deffo empire now Im an adult. Had great lightsaber fighting, and is so much less lighthearted but doesn't lose the humour, has amazing sets and locations, and always makes me feel (even though I obviously know the outcome!) that perhaps the empire will win. Its also the only film that has been tinkered with the special editions which hasn't been too bad really. I had no qualms with extra wampa shots, and Ian Mcdiarmid being reshot as the emperor was fine with me. Only a shame they changed bobas voice after ATOC came out.

Jedi was always my favourite and it still is now despite some of the changes which i dont like :(
I had not watched the movies for years but having recently gotten them on blu ray my 5 year old son and I watched Jedi in my cinema room and it was as great as I remember, Ewoks and all, just those bloody changes let it down.

We them watched some of Star Wars, we didn't have time to watch it all due to some pressing arrangement, and this was as fresh as the first day I watched it and we used to watch it every Sunday morning as kids :D it's a shame we didn't have time to watch it all the way through really.

Ditto. Can't get enough of Jedi. If i had to watch one of the 3 once a week for a year it would be Jedi. No question.

The opening scene of Star Wars still puts a huge smile on my face  . Empire is brilliant, dark and serious (the moment they lower Han into the Carbon Freezing chamber always brings a tear to my eye  ), but for pure entertainment Jedi will always be my favourite :D

New hope :D

No sorry its Empire 8)

Mmmmm actually can I go with Jedi?

Its to tough to call, I can't decide so I will go with the little 'uns fave, Empire

That's great mate - not too many fans go for Jedi - I think that's Mike's (mikesith's) fave also :D

Yep Andy .Jedi for me :D

Of course, every one groans due to the furballs, but that is outweighed in my opinion, by the story lines, some stunning cinema for the time, speeder chase, Death Star, brilliant reveal of darth turning back to the light side

All three films are amazing in my opinion, and are preferred for different reasons.

The best film is the film that YOU like the best, bollocks to all the critique, arty farty self opinionated autopsies done by film critics etc.....does it matter what anyone thinks.....it's what you enjoy, that counts :!:

In which case it's Jedi for me :D :D

In fact...cheers Andy, I shall watch Jedi this weekend :D

Tough one. Star Wars is my favourite, but Empire is the better film. Star Wars was the second film I ever saw at the cinema, the first was At the Earth's core, with Doug McClore (he was in it, he wasn't with me).

Did you go to any films with Doug McClore

The Empire Strikes Back for me, without question. As a ten year old back in 1980, there was none of the cynical notions of 'the second one can never be as good as the first', I just naturally assumed it would be bigger and better: and I wasn't disappointed. Sat on the edge of my seat in the Odeon Leicester Square on Tuesday May 20th, it was an evening I would never forget... and first hearing, then seeing those AT-ATs appear out of the snow haze... well, it still gives me goosebumps. What a film, a real tour de force.

My least favourite of the original trilogy is Return Of The Jedi, and I now realise this has a lot to do with my not being in the right frame of mind upon first viewing it in 1983. My dad had passed away three months previous to its release (don't worry, this isn't a sob story  ), and my mum took me to see it as soon as it was in the cinemas. I tried to like it for my mum's sake, but she was upset to see that I was disappointed (which I couldn't hide), which made me upset  Things that still grate apart from the Ewoks is the lame re-hash of blowing up another Death Star, and the damp squib that is the unmasking of Vader. I keep giving it another go, and I realise it wraps up the whole Luke/Vader storyline, but... I don't know... I'll just stick with the first two films if that's alright! :D

Sorry Andy, you didn't ask for the least favourite- but you got it anyway!
