What is the future for your vintage collections?

This question may have already been asked so apologies if I am repeating an earlier thread...

I am hoping that my vintage collection lines will hold value for the future & my eventual aim is to let my new born son decide what he wants to do with them i.e. sell to fund college/university or the like. So whilst I enjoy the chase of collecting & displaying it, eventually I want to see some good come from it rather than me croaking it & just leaving it in a will! I will have had many years admiring it hopefully & like to think I'd be ready to aprt with it for a greater good...

Do you guys think that vintage Star Wars toys or at least some of them will be future "antiques" as such & hold or increase in value or as those that were brought up on Star Wars thin out values may decrease due to low demand? What are your thoughts for the future of your collections? Are you looking to pass them down father to son, is it a rainy day fund, I've seen some people sell in emergencies or like me do you have a plan?!

I think its a great question, for me personally I am like all you guys a masive Star Wars Fan and love the fact that these figures are still available, let alone be in mint condition or moc.

I have been collecting MOC ROTJ lines for about 5 years now and am still learning, my collection is now moving into mint loose figures and I hope to continue for many years. I have recently bought my son (who's 2 and a half) some beater figures and he loves them, my aim was to educate him in the ways of the force and hope he learns to love and appreciate my collection so that he can enjoy it.

Long term, I would like to think that he would pass this belief on to his son/daughter and then be passed on from generation to generation. Until they do become antiques.

Obviously as time passes on more and more MOC figures will decrease whether it be by being damaged or sadly u grading of figures, so I think they will if not just hold their values go up in price, for me my figures are not rare but for most of you guys with the premium collections the existance of rare carded figures will decrease in time and thus push the price up.

I love collecting and learning about the figures and I hope to pass this knowledge on to my son and he continue what I have started, I would hope it would never be sold to fix a roof or pay for a car as these things can easily be paid for from somewhere else.

I look forward to others views on this.

Bram

:D

I'm a collector of all things good and **** and definitely not in it for the money. Like most on here, I love the hunt for those different figures to complete a collection.

Last year when I lost my job (like a few others on here) I sold around a third/quarter of my collection to keep up my mortgage payments, which worked out well in the end.

I can't see the prices of moc's going up dramatically over the next 10-15 years but they should at least hold their value of what they were originally bought for.

I personally have not thought about this. I hope to pass the collection through future generations. I have been a huge SW fan since i first watched the films 13 years ago. I am not in the hobby for the money and I also enjoy the chase more then anything else! 8)

I intend to collect until I don't want to or can't anymore.

If I ever have kids, I have no real intention of passing it on to them. If I still had it when I'm older I think I'd rather sell the lot and leave them the money. Let them decide what is important to them in life. Star Wars was my thing.

But who knows. I would also rather not have to sell it all to pay for an emergency thing, but it is always a possibility that is in my mind when buying.

I'm definitely not in for the money.

I just wanna collect figures/vehicles for myself. I have no intention of selling any on. If my son decides he likes them when he's older (he can have my beaters). If i have any of value i may pass them on to him if he wants.

The more i think about it, the more i get sucked into the whole vintage universe. Hopefully one day soon i'll start on carded figures and build up a nice collection

Great question.....for me I guess its half and half, I suppose I do have an eye on the value of some of the items I have bought, ie. The best moc's I have bought and hope that they hold their value or as you say maybe increase in time. Sorry if that sounds too mercenary... :?

With my loose figures though, I am collecting for the sheer love of it and the fun of getting my hands on toys that I had 25+ years ago...like some I had to sell my entire loose collection about a 2 years ago for financial reasons  ....But I have got a good few looses again and will focus on completing them before moving onto the next phase. I have to say that I have learned some amount since joining this forum, it has really added to my enjoyment in collecting either loose or moc figures....

Saying that I still can't resist a bargain and keep getting sidetracked if I see something I like, I guess that's the great thing about this hobby there is always something to keep you interested and coming back for more

After the birth of my second son my wife decided I should collect a second complete set of loose figure so they each have one ( nice to know she's thinking of my death ), who am I to argue. That said I decided a while back that ( as Gary said ) Star wars is my thing and who's to say either of my boys will have the slightest bit of interest in it. They may hate it due to me always saying no they can't touch them  .

Movies like Harry Potter to today's Generation will be what Star Wars was to us I guess, no where near as good but to those who grew up and got caught in the hysteria will always have it as a part of their childhood.

To answer the original question I hope my collecting will be as impulsive and disorganised in the future as it is today, I tend to go for stuff I think looks cool, there's certain vehicles I'll probably never own because I don't like the look of them. The only rule I have as far as what I collect is if it didn't appear in the film then I'm not really interested in it, vehicles like AST-5 and MTV-7 for example.

i had something similar in terms of numbers in the films.

So there were 5 AT ATs...I had 5 of them.

Got a bit lost when it came to tie Fighters!!

Nor sure why I had 6 shuttles!! I think there i went with, if I like it, buy loads
