What is the best way to auction my MOC collection?

...ask if one of the members here is willing to broker it for a small percentage or the allure of something nice you have, then it could be posted up on all 3 forums like Bram has been doing with that other collection

Vectis is a crazy route. Let me do this for you

I agree with a lot of the sentiment towards Vectis, I've not purchased or sold through them so I can't give an opinion on how they handle goods but you've got access to some fantastic and ultra reliable blokes on here who I'm sure would be happy to broker the sales for you ^^^as above^^^.

Speaking as an international buyer when I tried to watch some of their auctions online in the past their website function left a lot to be desired, if I recall even some guys on here in the UK missed out on items due to a less than perfect web link. Makes me wonder how much was lost on final value due to people not being able to bid.

I think you'd be doing yourself a huge injustice using Vectis personally, as Frank said you have a huge market available to you free of charge through forums on FB. Using a broker is the way I'd go if I were you.

Vectis did a cack job of packing for me. So bad that the acrylic case the item was in ended up being cracked!

I can only speak for myself but when it comes to auctions even if there is stuff I want I don't bother bidding as (a) bidding wars suck (b) extra auctions fees suck too (c) as its been pointed out Vectis don't descirbe their submissions well. Best of luck with it tho mate. G

With regards to Vectis - this auction here is why I would be very wary of letting them market/auction my items - clearly the main point of this lot is it came in the 99p Woolies Bag - and that three of the figures are in (opened) baggies - yet in the picture all we see is the figures - probably the least valuable element of the lot !

Iain.. this is being covered on the podcast, you'll be surprised what came back from them when I had a conversation about it.

I can't see anyway in which selling at Vectis gets you the most money.

You will lose on fees

You will lose by the fact that people will bid less than they would normally pay because they know they have the ridiculous premium to pay.

What is the total % addition buyers now have to pay?

Not sure what that Fett would go for or if it is even in the same sort of league as the Jawa

People have known the existence of the 30 back Fett since collecting began. The Jawa was a new and incredibly well hyped figure. Plus the figure itself has high value.

It may go higher admittedly. Sometimes you can never tell. And that's the problem at times with auctioning. At least if you placed a price on it you know what you will be getting. If it's too high and no one goes for it, chances are it would have been a much lower final price on an auction.

Like others I think selling them yourselves to collectors is the best way to go

And you forgot the archaic website and how slow it is

Craig, if you want an alternative route, drop me a line in the shop, 01425 650696 there are several options available to you, and as many have said the only winner is Vectis, not yourself.

Dave

I believe all of these are on display at Vectis already - someone went in and saw them yesterday

Yes, all of the MOCs are now at Vectis. Some of them will be sold at the auction on 28th January, with further sales later in the year.

Thanks for all of the offers, advice and comments. This is a big step for me but I'm convinced that I'm doing the right thing.

Good luck mate. I can fully understand the way you have done it. I liken selling your beloved pieces to pulling a plaster off. It's a lot more painful if you do it slowly. With Andy selling his collection there are a lot of big UK buyers who are skint. I think the rich American Fx-7 bidders will be your best bet. The U.S. dollar has strengthened since the fx-7 sale that can be only good news for you.
Where any of your pieces bought from me?

I have reached a momentous decision to sell a large selection of my Star Wars MOC collection via Vectis Auctioneers. All of the items are at Vectis and are currently being checked over.

There are eighty five Palitoy/Tri-logo MOCs in total, including five Star Wars 12 Backs, my set of ESB 30 Backs (minus Bossk and Rebel Soldier), a 30 Back Ben Kenobi and all of my Tri-Logos.
All of the figures are almost 100% mint condition, except for the majority of the Tri-Logos having crushed bubbles.

I would appreciate some suggestions on how to sell the collection – one huge auction perhaps (which is Vectis' suggestion), or a series of three or more (which is my preference). I am of course looking to get the best price for my collection. One big auction would make a huge impact of course but many of the MOCs could possibly get low prices due the sheer amount of items for sale.

Selling a large amount of my MOCs doesn't mean that I'm going to give up collecting. I am still as much a Star Wars fan as ever. Buying a house is of much greater priority at my time of life, which I hope that everyone will understand.

The force will be with me, hopefully.

Craig.

Good luck mate, hope you can start collecting again one day. :D

Thanks everyone.

I'm still collecting by the way - I'm only selling a chunk of my best MOCs, which I'll never have the space to display.

The advertising for the sale is now complete - see below.

Craig.
