What figures do you remember being rare in the 1980's

I doubt it. If anything stuff is even more common than when I started collection in the early 90's.

I imagine most figures are pretty non perishable and will last longer than us so not likely to dwindle and become rarer as such. unless people are going round destroying them on mass or there is suddenly thousands of new collectors and the supply get less.

Carded figures are a slightly different story however.

It seemed to get quite common that you'd be waiting for one or two figures in particular from a line to come out.

I lived in Shrewsbury when I was a kid, and my main supply was a family run shop called Funfair. There was also a smaller shop called Pickerings. However I was born in Newcastle, so whenever I would go up there to stay with my Grandparents they would take me to Fenwicks toy department, which was just mind blowing to me.
My mates would be so jealous, as they had things there that you could never get in Shrewsbury, or at least months before.
I remember mine and my mate's mum queuing up with a load of mums for Pickerings to open when word had got out that they were getting some Gammorean Gaurd's in.
I also remember Klattuu of all figures being out a lot later than his recent cardback chums.
Lando Skiff as well.
I remember finding one only of him in a small shop in Carlisle.
Oh, and the anticipation of those mailaway figures to arrive.
I'd love to know how long it took on average for those offer figs to be turned around.
Fett, & Emperor seemed like a lifetime as a kid!
