What Cardbacks was the alt Vader pointing picture released o

Hi all i have just purchased this

Darth Vader (pointing picture) 77bk -a AFA 85 NM+ clear bubble

I have been after one of these for years and what i was trying to find out is which cardback exactly was the alternative photo used.

I know that wedge engine on RS states that the vader pointing pic was only released on jedi cards alongside the standard vader pic that was used for the full run from SW to POTF and they value it 3 times higher than the standard vader pic on a jedi card.

I have just done some rearch via various sources including the Starwars archive and from what i can see the vader pointing pic was only released in the united states exclusively and only on ROTJ 77bk and the ROTJ 79bk.
It also shows that the canadian ROTJ 77 bk uses the standard vader picture. From what i can see the standard vader picture was used on all ROTJ 65.


According to the AFA report (which i know says it may have errors) there is only 1 example of an offerless ROTJ KENER 77BK VADER AFA 90 clear bubble and the highest grade reached for a ROTJ 79 BK is AFA 85 clear bubble. There is a seperate section for Kenner canadian which will be the standard photo 77bk .
If the above is the case then there is only 1 higer graded example of this figure which is pretty cool.

If anybody has any further info to help it would be much appreciated

Just looked at the photo archive on RS and it says
" Point of Interest:
This figure first appeared on the Star Wars 12 back card. The photo for this figure’s card back was changed on the Return Of The Jedi 65C back. The original image replaced the new image again on The Power Of The Force and the Tri-logo card backs."

I couldn't find any evidence elsewhere of the photo change taking place on the ROTJ 65C back if this was so would this mean the pointing picture was avialable on paltioy?

The highest grade on the AFA website for all ROTJ 65 bk vaders is 85 NM clear bubble so it still looks like just 1 example of an AFA 90 clear bubble pointing vader.

Anybody on here who versed in this area and can shed some light it would be much appreciated

Here is a confirmed list of all the cardbacks that the pointing Vader appeared on:-

65B, 65B (Made in Mexico), 77A, 77B, 79A, 79B & Toptoys Argentina (pictured below).

That toptoy vader is awesome coco i haven't seen that one before seen a few toptoy stormtroopers did it cost a lot? as its in top condition.

I prefer this picture for vader it looks awesome and defo harder to get hold of.

I wonder why they changed it back to the original picfor the tri logos and the POTF.

I got him from an Argentinean seller a few years ago for about £50! He had a few others for sale as well including 2 Stormies, 2 Chewies, 1 Chief Chirpa and another Vader. Wish I'd bought them all :roll:
