Put this here as the lurkers & non members do not need to see this, ok its readily available to find on youtube, but hell the less exposure it gets to those types the better, see other thread by same name in the main section for further explanation.

Is this the guy who MRI scanned a mailaway??

Anyway, i think repainting is ****ing rediculous. Customised figures are always being done of different / unproduced character designs etc but wear and tear adds to a figures display value. I have a few non perfect figures in my collection and i love the fact ther are played with because it makes you think back...

He also appeared on TV, I think it was called collectoholics where they showed him how to mold figures ;(

****ing tool! Sorry but this winds me up. No matter if someone only does it for themselves if you start making ****ing tutorials on it other shitbags will do it to sell them on without disclosure. Don't dick with vintage figures

Guys this is a member here, who has been restoring old toys for a few years , if someone has the idea to do this to decieve its not rocket science you need paint and a brush, if the guy was repainting a fett for instance i'd agree with you but he's not, hes fixing up a few beaters for his own collection

While the above is very true, the problem here is not so much the act of repainting figures..it's the promotion of repainting them and the fact that it makes his viewers believer that repainting is perfectly acceptable to do in our hobby.

I'm sure he will always have supporters and I don't doubt his intentions are simply to bring a few beaters in his collection back to life..I just don't think filming it in the style of a tutorial and putting it on youtube is the smartest move.

Many years ago, there was a guy doing recarding tutorials on youtube and I was shocked when I saw it so I posted the video link on RS which ultimately resulted in a bit of a mess..(don't ask!) but even back then (to my surprise) certain members were just kind of on the fence about his videos and in some cases totally ok with it ("it's been done for years, this is nothing new, it's harmless" etc etc) we are in 2015 now and to this day carded reproductions still fool people and cost newer collectors money..which has resulted in many forums (including RS) outright banning them.

At some point you have to think to yourself "are a few thousand views on my youtube channel more important than the integrity and safety of my hobby and fellow collectors?" It's a responsibility thing that's easy to forget about if you don't think twice about what you are doing.

At the end of the day as long as there's money involved, there will always be scammers too :(
I don't agree with the promotion of what number of paint to use, as this really dose make it easy for fraudsters. I tip my hat to UKG for being able to pick up on repainted figures as I no doubt small dabs of paint could be hard to spot. With the up rise of prices comes the up rise of scammers.
Sadly, this takes away some of the enjoyment from the hobby.

As long as it is for his own collection then I think it is ok. But if he sell them as original mint figures then it is not ok with me.

I have once bought a repainted figure from a guy on ebay and you guys on the forum told me to use UV light and it helped me to see it was repainted on old paint. Seller did not tell me it was repainted or sold it as repainted but I got my money back.

UKG told me they had to refuse a load of loose figures recently due to them being repaints :!:
As said we all know the ****ing ludicrous prices top graded loose figures r changing hands for, so the increase in this repaint lark doesn't surprise me one bit
