Vinyl Cape Jawa

Thanks everyone for their contribution. It looks like I'm off to find someone in Adelaide who can grade this little bloke. I don't like my chances. What is the next step re selling. Is Ebay the only option?

No, you'll get hit by fees that route and open to scammers - you can sell here or on facebook - there's loads of dedicated groups out there and you'll be targeting the right customer willing to pay handsomly for the right piece. Or there are FB auction groups too, that might be worth a look.

My advice is let's get you a decent asking price first. Can you get some really good close up focused photos of each angle - remember to take care of the cape and don't remove it as suggested.

When I get home from work I'll try and take some close ups. I'm limited to the camera on my phone. The cape will be staying on. :)

Something like this won't go under the radar so you'll pretty much get full value anywhere but as Mark said Ebay can be full of tossers and could leave you open to having the figure switched and returned.
Good luck whatever you decide

green spotting on the legs is v commonly found on the TT jawa and adds more legitmacy to the figure and the fact they have always been together since new is fantastic. i wish you well with selling. i would keep it if i were you and get it graded maybe.

you never know this amazing childhood find may awaken a vintage starwars collector inside of you. :D play the collecting game fella youll love it

awesome find , good luck with the sale . its not often you see someone with a grail piece from their childhood . you will make a lot of money on this . I wish I could afford it . it really loks to be in great shape .

Great find ! Congrats.

Keep it at least as an investment if not for childhood memories reasons ...

Hi All. It was a busy night last night and wasn't able to post any better photos. I rang multiple local niche toy stores yesterday and they were of the opinion there is no one in Adelaide who could grade this little bloke. I understand why many of you would hang onto this guy but I live in a high risk bushfire region. My house nearly burnt down two years ago. If that happened we wouldn't be having this conversation. With this in mind I think it would be good and make me happy to sell this guy to some one who'll appreciate it more than I would. I have also been speaking with a collector in the US who advised of the rarity of this piece. I guess this is the first step of putting it on the market but I'm happy to hold it until the right buyer comes along. I would respectfully appreciate your honest assessment. Thanks Steve.

Hi Steve. I am in Sydney if you want some help let me know, I am a Jawa focus collector.

You won't find anyone or company to grade this in Australia. 3 grading companies at moment UKG in UK, AFA and CAS in US. All 3 companies will probably have at least a 2-3 months turn around if not more.

From what I can see in the pictures the figure is a little dirty, you might be able to clean it up and small tears are occuring around the arm holes, at best you looking at a 70-75 grade but probably less. Also you are missing the blaster and finding a true TT Jawa blaster is going to be a bitch.

If you looking to sell at maximum price then you can make your mind up on the price by doing your own research and post it for sale and maybe accept an offer or listing on eBay and let people fight it out.

Yes the close up photos reveal some rips around the arm hole and I'm afraid graders are incredibly harsh, as above that will probably knock it down to a 75 and generally only grades of 80 and above add any value, lower grades often detract from the value. There would still be value to grading it as it proves authenticity, but as above it will take months, be expensive, and collectors here can confirm it is legit just as capably as a grading company.

I can't comment on exact value but you are definitely talking $1000+ even with the cape rips.

one sold on ebay in a bit better condition a few months ago for 1100 so I feel between 950 to 1100 is definetley what youd be looking at

I trust you're judgment as I have no idea. I have also been speaking with Martin at rebelscum.com who was sent the same photos and he advised it could go for upto $4000. I'm assuming that is USD. Why would there be such a huge discrepancy?

That's the nature of collectibles, something can sell for $1000 one day and $4000 the next. You can establish a reasonable market value by looking at recent sales, but nobody can say for sure what it would sell for.

If you want $4000, list it for that and see if anybody goes for it.

$A4000 is the most I have ever seem one sell for : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VINTAGE-STAR-WARS-TOLTOYS-VINYL-CAPE-JAWA-AFA-WITH-COA-/232189521081?hash=item360f92ecb9%3Ag%3AiIQAAOSwt5hYZMhX&nma=true&si=F4TJlxO9ri9Lzpellxv0bxDR0Fg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Ungraded they are well under $2K

How much are you looking at for a grading? Is it worthwhile pursuing this to add more to the market value? Will the cost of doing this be recovered with interest?

Well for a start you need to pay for return shipping to the USA or UK and back with minimum $1000 of insurance cover, so that's $100+ straight away. The grading fee itself varies but it will be more expensive than the price listed on the website because it's an unusual item (Toltoys) so they themselves will want to send it for authentication to a Toltoys expert. I imagine another $100 minimum. As said already yours will not grade very highly due to the cape rips and discolouration, so IMO you may struggle to get your $200 back as generally only grades of 80+ add value above the cost of grading.

Plus it will take at least a couple of months, grading is very slow.

Personally, I would let the buyer decide to get it graded or not. Some collectors really hate graded items and to them the grading won't mean a thing.

I would let whoever buys it decide if that's the route to go down.

I think $4000 is on the high side for this given the condition - still VERY hard to find though so you're in for a nice payday.

Perhaps the auction route is the way to go, or decide what figure you'd be ahppy with given the info you got so far and sell on the forum? Word will get around fast once it's up for sale.

eBay is a gamble but it's your best bet of getting maximum cash. Of course there is also a chance it could sell for less than you want, such is the nature of auctions.

Yours is not worth $4000 for reasons pointed out above, so if I were you I would stick it in the sales section here and offer it up for $2000 AUD and see if you get any interest. Remember you will pay 15% in seller and paypal fees on eBay so even if it sold for more on there you could still end up with less overall cash. Plus items like this being sold by sellers with no previous reputation in Star Wars will always sell for less as people will be worried it is fake.

Good luck with your sale - I'm sure a few people will be disgruntled that you want to maximise your profit but it's your figure and you have the right to do what you like with it (and the right to a fair price.)
