Hi all,
I'm not a collector but I believe I have a loose Vinyl Cape Jawa, without weapon, and I would like to sell it.
To give you some background, I'm from South Wales and it comes from my childhood collection. I was three when the first film came out and I started getting presents of figures and vehicles from then. They would all have been bought in the UK. I remember I was most keen during the 'Empire Strikes Back' period, but I've got stuff through to 'Return of the Jedi'. After that, nothing, and at some point all the figures were put into a shoe box and the vehicles were put back into their battered boxes to be stored in the attic of my parents' house.
I've got two young sons and we live in South London now. During the re-runs of the films on ITV over the last month my eldest showed some interest, and when we visited my parents I thought I'd get some Star Wars stuff out again, so I brought some of it back to London to take a look.
I knew nothing about the figures except that they had been played with, the backing cards were long gone and overall they probably weren't worth more than £5 each. I just wanted my sons to play with them. But the urge to re-live my childhood was quite strong, so I did an internet search and looked at some 'top ten rare figures' websites just in case...and the Jawa was on them. Then, of course, I had a "I've seen that somewhere" before moment and here I am.
It's lucky the Jawa still has its cape as my youngest son has been pulling the "coats" off most of the figures and has damaged some - probably the Jawa was small enough to hide at the bottom of the box. It's cape has no rips.
I've done the checks that your forum has suggested may validate it.
1. Cape is the same colour as the Jawa.
2. Cape is smooth on the outside and has the "zip" texture on the inside.
3. Cape is flexible.
4. Cape tapers to points on the front: it is not cut-off at 90 degrees.
5. Cape is tight around the back of the Jawa.
6. Cape is tight under the arm holes.
7. The arm holes are nearer to each other than the Obi-Wan cape armholes.
8. Cape is 1-2mms off ground at front, and then 3-4mms off ground at back.
9. Jawa has the 'big eyes'.
10. Stamp on leg reads "G.M.F.G.I (1?). 1977" then under it reads "HONG KONG".

If you have any questions or want more photos please ask and I will upload. I think it should be worth about £275-300, but I'd be happy to be corrected by the people on this forum as you seem very reliable and fair people, and I would also be happy for that price to go up irrationally in a bidding frenzy!
Thanks and looking forward to your comments,
Martin.
