Vintage Princess Leia from Ebay

Hello again, i have a question i like to ask. I won a bid on Ebay for a Princess Leia in white with the vinyl cape. I have asked the seller the usual question (is the cape genuine or repro?) The seller has assured me the cape is genuine as he had it from childhood and has been well looked after. If it turns out to be a repro will i be able to claim a refund or is this unlikely? I only paid £24 for her without a gun. What are the best ways to check if the cape is real or fake? I don't want repros if i can help it.

Best way to find out if it's fake or not is take a good photo and post on this thread, or post a link to the eBay listing.

However if the seller has good feedback and has been around for a while , probably telling the truth.

Hello again, yes the seller has a good feedback record. He's only had 1 negative feedback from what i read, this was not a negative feedback related to repro's though. It was a negative feedback from someone who wasn't happy with the item they had bought. Nothing to do with repro's though. I seriously hope the cape is genuine! Can anyone tell me how to post pics on here? I'd be happy to post pics on here if i knew how to do that. Thanks

Yeah I agree to be honest, but then again i'd rather have the genuine gun then a repro gun. If you or anyone else on here has or knows anyone that will sell me the original gun, please let me know.

Yeah, Leia is going nuts with the gun.

I personally think £24 is very high for a Leia with no gun. Most of her value is tied up in that little bitch of an accessory that always seems to be the one missing.

As for telling if it's repro, most of them will have the same characteristics as other vinyl capes. Thickness, arm holes, one glossy side and one that zips when you run a fingernail on it. Keep in mind though that some authentic Leia capes are glossy on both sides, which makes identifying it as real more of a challenge. I believe this is mostly Taiwan Leia's with that cape variant.

Just post clear close up pics, and we'll help you out.

The Leia blasters are going for £20+ apparently. I answered someone asking on facebook prob about 10 quid and got shot down by several people - No! Leia blasters are £20. I wouldn't pay that much. I think 24 is ok for a mint original Leia, prob 30-40 complete nower days.

I see this so much on Ebay, people selling the figure with no accessories and then sell all the accessories separately! I think it's totally wrong and not only wrong but very cheeky and greedy too! If someone's going to sell a SW figure, at least sell it complete if they can. Not all this buy one for not much and then charge the roof for the other bit! They do the same with almost all the SW ships & playsets! They sell the shell of a X-Wing Fighter and then sell the guns for as much as £20 each! Nevermind how much for the canopy as well!

I sell complete when I can, and don't fall for the temptation to make more by splitting the accessories from the figure. I agree, it's not right to do that.

After searching everywhere online for a genuine Princess Leia gun to add to the figure i won on Ebay. I have decided to buy a repro gun exactly like the genuine one. As much as i hate repro stuff, i can not find a genuine one for less than £20+! Spending that kind of money on a tiny bit of plastic that should come free with the figure anyway, is a bit crazy imho. So i paid £1.50 for a nice enough light blue repro. Like i said, i don't normally touch repro's but on this occasion i think i can be excused.

I have noticed leia has gone up in value lately going between £20 and £30 incomplete and as high as £60 mint and complete :shock:

Steve, that's a fair comment and i do agree. However it doesn't look right with no gun. I'm not willing to fork out 20 plus quid for a gun even if it is genuine. People are purely trying to sell these things for top dollar out of greed more than rarity i think. It is a one off buy and i most certainly wouldn't be buying any repros after this one. I have got a lot more figures with weapons etc and i don't know if some of those are repro's or genuine? I will check properly though.

As a random aside I have a semi-opened bubble Leia palitoy 12 back MOC that has no footer or gun (couldnt afford a mint one!). I wasn't sure if all Leia guns are the same, as I could get one and post it into to the bubble to keep her safe. Did she have variant guns?. I'm taking it that there's no chance on getting the footer/ wouldn't want a fake one.

I believe there was 2 different blasters with her blue / black , can't remember if they were with the 12 back .

As far as i can remember the gun was the same as standard but it came in either black or light blue colour. There is a link on this forum that will show you exactly all the variations and how to spot the repro's.
