Vintage DT Darth Vader - Original (Vinyl Cape)

Hi Everyone .. first post so please bear with me.

I have just sold a load of vintage empire strikes back/return of the jedi figures on ebay.

While going through my husbands pot of goodies (figures) i have come across an original (what i believe to be) DT darth vadar. I have read several different websites but i'm really confused as to whether it is or not before i sell it. Some say long tip, some say short tip, some say it should move others say t shouldn't etc etc. If i post a photo on here of it, would you all be able to clarify it for me (as you will have more idea than me) and also would you give me a rough estimate as to what it should fetch at auction and whether i should have a reserve etc etc.

I'M SORRY FOR THE POOR QUALITY BUT THIS IS THE FIGURE. IT ALSO SAYS ON THE BACK ON ONE OF THE LEGS .. G.M.F.G.I 1977 HONG KONG.

Hi there.

It is very unlikely to be as they are extremely rare but you never know. A telescoping sabre (standard sabre that came with Darth Vader/Ben kenobi/Luke Skywalker is a single piece sabre with a thin tip. It moves up and down the arm. It is one single piece. Quite often the tips break off as they are fragile.

A double telescoping sabre is a very early version of the sabre which was changed pretty quickly after concept due to the cost of manufacture and fragility of the sabre. It consists of an outer, hollow sabre that goes up and down the arm with a thin filament inside the outer sabre that additionally extends out of the tube like a telescope, effectively making the sabre extend out of the arm and then a second extension oft of the sabre itself.

There are a few Luke's about as he was released with the dt sabre for a short while to get stock out but bens and vaders exist only in very small numbers.

If you take a photo then we will be able to tell you for sure.

I'm thinking it's going to be a standard one as the DT's are very rare, especially for this figure. The DT's have a hole through the centre of the thicker part of the sabre that the longer,thinner part moves inside of and should look like this -

Hope that's of some help but do feel free to post up a picture if it does look like the one in the link ( also be very careful when touching the thinner part/tip as it can break).

Ahh it looks like it is just a normal one then as the thinner piece doesnt go into the thicker bit.

Yep, it's the standard version.

Since you asked, assuming there are no tears in the cape, the saber is original and not a reproduction, and the figure is in great shape, it should bring in £10-£15. Possibly a little higher if it is dead mint.
