Vintage Custom Playsets

Those play sets look great, they remind me a bit of this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Palitoy-Lego-Retro-Vintage-Style-Custom-Made-Death-Star-Playset-/300840074226?nma=true&si=pCTWDF10egFpIOQPvyowAywqb2A%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I remember the one above being listed originally with some more pictures but this was all I could find.

Hello tiefighterboy, thanks so much for posting the thread! :D

I've dropped in and looked through this forum before, but never registered - so here's my first post just saying 'hello'!
(My blog site directed me here).

Thanks for all the really kind feedback:

PIGCITY  haha your comment "Even more impressive that he knocked it up in Coreldraw, what is this 1995?" made me laugh good and proper. I used to do a lot of graphic design for work, but my career has long since changed direction - bet you can't guess when I was designing! It's good to keep 'playing' just for the fun of it. I could've used Illustrator or even Aldus Freehand, but I only have Corel left on my laptop.

Hi aussiejames, great to see you recognise the 'playsets' from the http://www.starwarscollectorscantina.com/forum. You left me some kind words on the thread. It's a great 'fun' forum to post in with some great guys. I'm really a poor man's collector compared to some - there's such amazing knowledge out there. I find it fascinating to read and a great reminder of some childhood memories.

There's a few designs in progress, but I've moved recently and with a new house needing a fair amount of work my finances have been a little short to buy a new printer. Fingers crossed I can get them printed and made up soon. I think my son will love them.

All of the designs apart from the Deathstar wall panels are drawn by me - those wall designs come from Frank's http://dioramaworkshop.com/ - an amazing artist! It was Frank's amazing art that got me thinking about drawing my own designs.

Once again, thank you to all for the kind words - this started out as a bit of fun, drawing designs and then having a go at setting up a blog.
Hearing all the feedback just makes it so much better. Star Wars fans are great guys - cheers!

That's very kind of you... Hopefully, soon I'll be able to buy a new printer and finish off some of the other designs (Rancor pit, Blockade Runner and Clone Wars Rishi Moon set) :D

At least the new kitchen is finished, so my wife's happy

Yeah I understand priorities for sure. :D

Hi all, hope you're all well...

Dragging up an old thread! I've recently done a couple of more models (but still short of a printer!)...
You might be interested to see the full scale artwork for the Jawa Sandcrawler:

If you like it and have a go printing and building the 'playset', please let me know and share your pics - it'd be great to hear from you.

All the best, Mark

They are incredible pieces of work, you've done a fantastic job the art work is so cool, you're kids must have been thrilled with the outcome :) great blog too :)

I would love to have a go at printing off the sandcrawler and giving it to my son. What's the best material to attach it to?

Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks Mumbo, appreciate the feedback!

I use A3 sticker paper from eBay (I use someone called QP Media - they seem to have good paper).

Then I mount to 5mm black foam board which can be purchased from lots of art/craft places. You could try somewhere like Hobbycraft.

Then it's just a case of trimming with a hard edge and sharp Stanley knife.

If you do make the playset, please share some photos! Cheers, Mark

Time to start sourcing the materials :) will upload when complete, thanks for your guidance :D

I missed this thread first time round - those play sets look fantastic and very professional. They look like they could be an official Kubrick take on the vintage line

I might have a go at making one too 8)
