Vintage collecting: What is your goal?

Not sure we ever had a thread like this on here before!

Pretty simple - what are your short/long term goals with Vintage collecting right now, or perhaps what were your goals when you got into collecting and where has collecting taken you since then.

For me at the moment there are plenty of focus related things that I would love to add to my run, I really didn't have a goal when I set out on a character focus, I just wanted to buy "things" which later developed into more expensive and rare things unfortunately for my wallet! My focus goal for the longest time has been to acquire some 3D pre production but there are items that fit that bill on my want list that I have been searching for now for at least 4 years, which is kind of frustrating.

As for general collecting, I do go through phases, I really do want to try to get as close to completing the Trilogo MOC run as possible, funds permitting of course and that goal is on the go slow for now since I have just become a father.

There is something I really wanted to own for a couple of years now which is very non specific in a character type of way but in a pre production way it's almost holy grail type stuff and that would be a piece of original photo art, I don't think I would particularly care about the character as long as the image was nice - very much a "not going to happen" piece for me but I sure would love to own one even for a short amount of time.

So what are you trying to do with your collecting guys?

I have almost achieved my goal- to get a Kenner jawa moc on every numerical back possible. I have nearly achieved that- just two to go now (47 and 79 back).

My long term goals are:
1) add some foreign mocs to my run
2) add more modern jawa preproduction items
3) hopefully get *any* 3D vintage preproduction jawa item.
4) continue my side focus of wierd ****.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else's goals are!

Mine is simple 500 stormie lined up in a diorama hanger with about 500 imperials



And to keep tab my signature will be updated with the exact number of stormies I have , other wise it will get boring adding to to new acquisitions "oh look nut got more stormies"

And maybe a beater moc Rotj run of imperial characters

I have no specific goal...just to collect vintage as long as I live and can afford it.

I've always wanted a full set of loose figs and vehicles, minus the vc jawa and blue snaggletooth.
But now that all my stuff is gone, beginning from scratch again in a few months, I was thinking of getting loose afa's,
to get them as mint as they come without supporting the U-grade stuff.
But the urge to free them from their cases will be too hard to resist, so we'll see when time comes...
Oh, and add a stormtrooper helmet on top of that

My short term goals are to finally get my favorite stuff in acrylic, reorganize, and buy really cool ****. I'm currently waiting on a custom acrylic case from Oscar for a special foreign bootleg carded piece and maybe roger will come through with my Popy case fo my Popy Fett. I want sell off my remaining production MOC's, and reorganize my collection since I only have a limited space for display.

My long term goals I'm not as sure about. Of course I want to add more rare fetts to the Fett focus and add to my expanding bootleg collection, but other than that, I guess we'll see what happens

Mine is pretty simple (on paper at least) - I want to own one of every figure on every logo (SW, ESB, ROTJ, POTF, Droids & Ewoks)

I know that some might be impossible/very hard to get - Trilogo Madine, Jawa and Boba being three toughies but if I can get close then I will be a happy bunny - at the moment I have 99 to go so have a lot to go at

Anything with the original sw logo.Thats what I remember as a kid and thats what I like.But I think you can go through phases.Like getting a full set of minty loose, I normally look for the figures I like first(1st 21)then a few ESB figures then a couple of ROTJ Figures then lose intrest :roll: So I end up going back to original sw line POTF sorry guys(might upset a few of you here :? )I just dont get it.crap figures,crap cards and they cost more loose, than the original sw figures :roll:

One of my goals is to get a complete set of loose figures - I'm not sure if this will include the blue Snaggletooth (depends on the wallet! ). I also wouldn't mind looking at getting variants of some of the figures, and some carded figures - so we'll see how it goes, and I'll keep you posted!

My short term goals are to complete my loose set and acquire a Graded 85 or 90 VC Jawa

In the longterm I would like to get a few favourite MIB Ships and Playsets
Put together a Mint Kenner 12 Back Set! Palitoy is too expensive
And Try and Get the POTF Carded Run

Oh and slowly add to my Small Yoda Focus

and maybe Start a Droids Carded Focus (power droid R5D4, DSD R2D2 and C3PO)

It may seem like a long list but hey I have got time on my side

Like Tundra9 I got rid of my whole loose collection, bar my Loose 12 Backs, a while ago. I wouldn't mind a complete set of loose figures in better condition then i had originally and to upgrade some of my first 12 to mint condition.

I'm Starting from scratch with MOC's, I would like to collect as many as possible, don't really have a focus as yet, although I do like the Empire card backs and would love to acquire a 12 Back carded some day.....Dear Santa... :lol:

I reckon thats enough to keep me going at the moment... :mrgreen:

As far as my goals go they change a bit.

Short term its to complete my loose stuff
Medium term is going to be a loose set of POTF coins
Long term is my grail - a set of unreleased Droids and Ewoks characters. This is going to be a quest, probably never going to fully happen short of a pile of money and a shotgun.

I've had quite a few goals over the years. My first was to just get every figure MOC on any card back. Then I tried to put together a full set of tri logos and got within 3, and I also had a Luke Bespin focus so my goal with that was just to get everything different I could find! After the theft and selling up, I decided to put together a set of 12 backs and did that within about 6 months. I sold them all earlier this year though as I didn't have anywhere to display them.

So I guess my current goal is find a focus that interests me!

My goal would be to keep the fett focus tidy! ive gone from wanting every moc and varient to selling most of it and keeping a few select pieces.

Ive really enjoyed my focuses over the years, bounty hunters, klaatu, squid head. And ive handled some gem figures in my time too.

one thing i cant stand is hording stuff thats never on display so i aim to selectively pick out a few pieces, nothing like the scale i once did.

i have a load of other lines i collect too, so i am a bit of a hoarder.

Here's my goal list for the year that I posted on that other board.

2012

1. Find that DT Luke baggie

2. Luke: find some more foreign items and it'd be great for another preproduction item like a cromalin or another proof.

3. Complete my basic Droids coin set with Boba.

4. Have a blast with friends at CVI and try to save up some spending money.

5. Finally get some pieces framed that I've been meaning to do.

Since posting that, I've already picked up 3 new foreign LJs with two of them being on my want list for a long time.

For long term though It'd probably have to be any of the preproduction stuff as LJ preproduction doesn't come up very often and I'd love more.

Long term goal: Feature a glorious display of Imperial soldiers and dabble in customizing so I can create truly battle-damaged Jedi to fall to the Empire. I've done a little bit of customizing with Transformers, but I think it would be much more interesting to work on actual people rather than vehicles.

Short term goal: Buy a TIE Fighter.
