Vectis upcoming auction

I had a quick look through. Couldn't see anything I needed sadly.

Though probably just as well for the bank balance!

Not even gonna look - out of cash!

Well, might have a sneaky peek...

Some lovely items but their price guides don't seem to be to accurate. Is that normal or do they always stick low values up just to get you excited :)

MORE palitoy 12 backs FFS! I think we can rule out them being rare now. People spending £1000s on the initial batch last year must be steaming.

The actual achieved prices don't back that up but I reckon that some of this lot will go abit cheaper as there are more faults mentioned in the descriptions - creases, scuffing, bubble dings etc. whereas the early auctions were all Mint/Near Mint.

When you look at ebay sales from stuff that obviously came from the first auctions everything was pretty much straight AFA 85s, whereas some of these don't look like they'd get that now (which is good because it opens things up for more people to buy). I think the continuing lack of Ben/Leia/Chewie/Jawa etc, and moreso Power Droid, R5, DSD mean that they're becoming rarer (although none are rare) than some of the others now, and the old Palitoy order of what was rare and what wasn't has probably changed a bit.

Pretty unexciting really aside from one or two lots. A bit like a really good boot sale in the early 1990s.

Palitoy 12 bks are definitely not rare now - mint are still hard to find, but they are looking common compared to all other non-us cards.

odd auction all round really, as above, big chunks of it are indeed like a great carboot from back in the day.. nothing stand-out/jawdropping

Man you lot are one hard to please people now a days  There is half a sealed Yak Face card back and a couple of Death Star Play Situations!?

No interest in group bidding on the Palitoy Luke X-wing 20 backs this time around? One thing that will be interesting though are those Meccano reseals as well as the Harbert mocs, you just see them fly

Well hold on a sec guys there is one 12 back in the auction that is actually pretty rare...the Luke :!:

Not because it is a Palitoy 12 back Luke but because it is a 12A Luke :!: :!:
In the years I have been collecting I have only ever seen 1 12A, all the rest that have come up for sale publicly have been on B cards. Indeed also the top collections I known of out there all include B card examples of Luke apart from one other owned by a good fellow collector friend 8)
Shame it isn't in top condition but none the less it's a toughie! Because it isn't really sought after by many prob due to it not being currently possible to put a set of Palitoy 12 back A's together the rarity factor is overlooked :!: Saying all this, a load of 12A Lukes will prob turn up now

Anyway nice to finally c another 12A example 8)

There's a few items I'd like to have. No doubt my strategy of buying a few small items I really want will go completely to **** within minutes and I'll end up with 15 Ewok villages or something equally as large and ridiculous!!! I shouldn't be allowed near auctions, I get too excited. I do like to watch (and discuss after) how much stuff goes for though.

You and me both, Jim. Just as bad as you.

A few Triligos I'd like and always a pleasure to see the 12 and 20 backs but nothing standout for me. And I agree with the above: way too much modern junk and boxes of car boot vintage. Looks like the decent childhood collections have dried up for them this time.

I have the feeling the excitement is dropping , I agree there is some crap in there , and too much modern gear !

But agree with the Luke A back , a diamond in the rough , is still a diamond

Vectis auctions used to be kept quiet by everyone so that some of us would have a chance that buyers with big bucks wouldn't hear about it. Now it gets posted on Facebook and forums, so this will undoubtedly attract higher numbers. With 10s of 1000s of "collectors" now, it's almost impossible to keep quiet.

You can still get bargains regardless of the discussions. Was it not at Vectis' peak that someone here picked up a 30 back Luke Bespin for less than £800? Seen the same thing (in worse condition) sell for thousands since then. And Vectis hasn't gone unnoticed since the £18k Boba Fett. You're only hope is that on the day some of your competition can't make the sale for one reason or another and that happens in all auctions. And they can always commission bids, anyway.

I think the sheer volume of stuff being auctioned off on the day helps at times too, nobody can realistically bid on it all so they usually choose to focus on a handful of items instead. Sometimes people are so worried about one particular lot that they forget about the others too.

Compare that to ebay where you might watch say 10 items of interest per week..it's quite the marathon. I had it on the TV last time and it felt like time had stood still while I waited for the Trilogos to start but then once they came around the bidding for each lot was so quick and intense that it's easy to see how some items sell for less than you expect as people get caught up in the madness and blow their budget early or get confused working out which item they really want to try for.

?

That's why it's imperative people have a price in mind, and stick to it. I work nights, the auctions are in the morning. Just before bed I put my maximums in and forget about it. I wake to see what I've won.

Yeah that Luke Bespin was a touch. Was the most I've ever spent on a single MOC. The £640 max bid was just supposed to be a cover in case it went for too little and I went "damn, I should have bid something". It graded 85 too. WOW.
