UKG80 Death Star Droid

Thing is with the Toy Tony's, if they still excepted them the graders would have to spend a lot of time checking each item out and time is money. I mean if someone is giving you £30 to grade something and you have to supply the case as well how much time would you want to spend checking it out?

In my experience UKG are generally more consistent across figures/distributors etc, where as AFA are definitely more lenient on trilogos and Uzay/Ledi's etc than they are on Kenner and Palitoy MOCs. But there are always exceptions, like this example. Inconsistency is another reason why I'm not keen on grading, human error and subjectiveness are of course unavoidable when a person is making the decision, so they can't begin to claim grading is fair and consistent.

I'd be much more keen on grading if it was somehow electronic and based 100% on facts rather than opinion, eg as mentioned before a 95% grade if 95% of the card was perfect. But we've all seen mint MOCs with the POP removed score anything from 40 to 60, when in reality the other 95% of the card is flawless.

The grade for the card is the overall grade - if it doesn't have a POP but 100% of the rest of the card is perfect, it's still badly flawed and deserving of a lower grade (when compared to a minty example complete with POP). If I bought a minty Porsche but someone had replaced one door with one from a Robin Reliant would it be a minty Porsche? :D

You're bang on about the human error and subjectiveness. It's why I always chuckle when I see someone moaning about grades their items got - if you take the risk of someone grading the item for you, then you accept the risk of a low grade for something you missed, just as you'd dance around the room if it got 90's.

Grading should eliminate 'most' discrepancies with peoples own judging what an item is worth in grade terms. We've all seen c10+, c11 items which we'd call something a lot lower so it should help buyers get what they thought they were getting, which is why the DSD stands out so much. UKG are normally quick to defend their items (like Iain's Yak Face from a while ago), so they're either keeping quiet cos it's a poor mistake, or maybe they are on holiday :)

You can't explain some things in life or collecting. This makes no sense.
