Anyone with any opinions on either. Would a same grade figure with AFA fetch a higher price? In the UK its much easier to use UKG but all my collection is AFA.

There's quite a few threads on this topic. To summarise I believe:

If you're only interested in £s then use AFA as it is the internationally recognised standard. However as you say it'll cost you.
If you want a quicker, friendlier, cheaper, and in many others' opinions, better service then UKG.

I think your figures are safer been sent in land rather than abroad.. But as said afa command the higher prices

I recently had two sets of MOCs sent off, the first (from US sellers) to AFA, the second (from the UK) to UKG. Steve at UKG has kept in touch throughout, the whole thing has taken only 3 weeks or so and I know what grades the figures got.
By contrast I have just received my two AFA graded figures, and one has been failed for a reseal on one corner of the bubble. No comms from them at all to inform me of this beforehand. And what really makes me chuckle is that AFA have taken so long that I'm now a week outside of ebay's 45 day window so I have no comeback at all, and I'm at the mercy of the seller taking it back and refunding me (which to be fair he has said he will, but I have no ebay protection).
Bottom line, if you want a decent service, where you know your items are not going to end up in a black hole, use UKG.

My train of thoughts are:

1) If the hobby is all about the cash/investment - AFA

2) If the hobby is partly about the cash and you want a good service - UKG

3) If the hobby is all about the the toys/memories - dont bother with the above, let them roam free or buy your own cases which arent sealed. They don't need to be sent for grading to "look good" - if you like the cases you can buy them.

Just my 2 pence.

WELL said that man :!:

UKG.

AFA will never get my money.

But Nicks third point is where it's at. Grading is good for BC palitoy Jawas, but if you need someone to tell you that your action figure has paint chipped away on its boots- you may need to rethink your hobbie. :p

I think most of the guys on here know my opinion on this one & like Grant said, AFA will NEVER get a penny out of this collector!!

I hear point 3 & agree with it for the most part TBH, but I am having all my baggie collection graded by UKG in stages as baggies look bloody awful sitting on a shelf loose & more importantly tend to fall off & get damage as they won't stand, so for me its all about display & protection.

I have had some right horrr style cases come from AFA with baggies in & every one of them is going to UKG for re casing, that should say something.

Also worth considering is that AFA do NOT take the weapons in to consideration when grading, so your loose can get a grade with a repo weapon :? where as UKG grade with the weapon, makes a lot more sense to me.

There are several previous threads on this topic
