Depending on who you listen to the 'violet' cape is just discolouration.

Thats what I have heard - I also have a number of bibs that have a mix of blue/purple which lends credibility to this theory

Thought to be a variation in the early 90's until more purple smocks were created after setting in the sun for years as they used to be blue....sorry
