Apologies for outing an auction but I thought this needed to be seen.

 Check this out: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/onlyafa/m.html?item=260964777631&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&_trksid=p4340.l2562

Sellers name is onlyafa do you think most of these were opened specifically for u grading? Sure looks that way.

Approx 60 carded figures destroyed

That's disgusting, obviously all from pulled figures sent to afa. The card backs for the logray and wicket he's selling are in one of the auctions. Why the **** do people do this. All for a ****ing U in front of the grade. I have a question. If these U grades have been pulled straight from a card, why are they it U100??

Just because they have been pulled from a card doesn't mean they will be perfect. Carded figures can also have paint rubs and overspray etc.

I saw these go up as well, I know he has a full set of U graded figures for himself however I didn't think he was actively U grading and selling, it's possible these are cards from his own personal set (which I still don't agree with) and not the result of more being sent in- although I don't know for sure.

This kind of stuff makes me sick! I do hope this ass clown is not buying carded to sell as U Grades. He needs monitoring and if he is maybe some of his auctions need to be sabotaged!

So I am I correct that he has U Graded all these - http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1076904/

The guy is a ****in loony!

I would hope it's just the Kenner figures that are U graded, I highly doubt it would be possible to find a MOC example of many of the foreign loose variants he has.

Although again, a full set of U figures Kenner or not is still not to my liking.

I just sent him the link to Shawn K's U grade info page. Lets see what he says!

I don't and never will, understand why people feel the need to open a carded figure to get it graded with a U in front of the grade. :x
If 500 people did it with, say only 10 items each, that's 5000 carded figures wrecked. Not taking into account all the ones that have already been u graded.
Personally, I think AFA have a lot to answer for. Surely this whole practice needs either doing away with or regulating.
Just my 2 pence worth.

Seconded here too!

Nothing against high end collectors, I hope to be one myself one day :D but it just seems that some collectors get so used to the top shelf stuff that they seem loose all respect for the lesser quality carded figures. The beaters and not so perfect items have a very important role to play when it comes to attracting new collectors to the hobby.

They're basically destroying an affordable item in order to have it U graded encased in perspex where it losses 50% of it's original charm. I still get a thrill from even holding the most beat up piece of **** card but then that just might be me.

With most other antique?vintage items the wear and tear is considered a part of it's beauty, it tells a tale of it's past owners makes you wonder how it managed to find it's way to you. I even dig seeing where some kid 30 years ago circled the figures in pencil on the back probably in some feeble attempt to give his parents a hint of what he wanted next Christmas.

I truly do hope this practice stops, why U grade when you could have a pre-loved collection far more interesting to look at!

Some good points Ryan but I dont necessarily think this is about a lack of respect from high end collectors its just about a lack of respect from ignorant and or greedy individuals who couldnt give a dam about the wider context of their actions. Its sad to see and I like you enjoy hearing about the stories surrounding certain pieces. The sad fact is that If the service didnt exist they couldnt use it.

Too true Chris, I didn't mean to pigeon hole all High end collectors.

Just some :D

I know mate. No worries. I think everyone on this forum is of the same thinking on this issue. It is sickening, destructive to the hobby and we would all like to see it banned. Maybe we could become more vocal on this matter and create some sort of online petition??? Wasnt there one set up a while back :|

It would show that we are serious. It may and probably will not change anyhing but its better than sitting and grumbling I suppose?

Totally agree mate, I did this for a similar discussion on RS seems pretty apt for this one too.....

Totally agree with your fist point here mate. I am relatively new to collecting MOC figures. I certainly dont have unlimited amounts of cash lying around so the more affordable and sometimes 'beater' carded figures were my gateway back into adding some of them to my little collection. The point you make about even just holding the card is so true. The memories alone from just picking up my first carded Jedi figure since I was a kid was just brilliant. If these types of carded figures are constantly destroyed it would be an awful shame in my humble opinion...... :x The old cards are a piece of toy history and should be treated as such, nobody opens vintage champagne just to taste it and say, ''oh yes that's vintage champagne'', just to recork it then  Same thing in my opinion, the figure is sealed, you can see what it is, leave it be.....
