The figure is ok, a bit dull, as is the cardback.
But what annoys me is that the figure and cardback don't match.
Surly it wouldn't have been too difficult to got this right or have a general Hoth trench scene for the cardback?

I agree wrong guy on the cardback. Figure have a beard and the soldier on the cardback do not have a beard, also a hoth trench scene would have been better with the figure (y)

I'm not sure that's actually correct, Lars. I was always under the impression the Rebel Commander figure was based on Major Bren Derlin (as played by actor John Ratzenberger, aka Cliff Clavin from the sitcom 'Cheers'!). Kenner gave the figure John's distinctive moustache, although they still got his uniform wrong (but did include the scarf attached to his hat, which is missing from Ledick Firest, as far as I can tell), however some genius responsible for the cardback photo cropped the character out of the image on all the cardbacks up until the Tri-logo, when matters were finally rectified and the character got restored.

Anyway, regardless of which character Kenner based the Rebel Commander on, it's a figure I quite like. It's never going to be a tip-top favourite of mine, but I do think it's a solid figure, even though as a child I thought the head scarf was very silly and annoying as it meant I couldn't turn his head to his right!

There are several different variants to be had with this figure, and I have a few of them. The Lili Ledy version rather surprisingly, comes with a black bowcaster! However, although I do have the bowcaster (see pics below), I have given my figure a Kader Hoth Rifle to hold instead :). Also, my pair of Poch / PBP Commanders should really have Smile rifles (I believe), but mine currently have Unitoys.

From left to right:

3 line tunic, 3-line belt, separate emblems, dark brown moustache, scarf & boots. Smile L1a, R2b figure, M3c Smile rifle.
1 line tunic, blank belt, joined emblems, light moustache and boots. Kader L1b, R1b figure, M2a Kader rifle.
1 line tunic, 3-line belt, joined emblems, dark moustache, dark yellowish-brown boots. Unitoy L1a, R1b figure, M1d Unitoy rifle.
1 line tunic, 3-line belt, joined emblems, dark moustache, dark reddish-brown boots. Unitoy L1b, R1b figure, M1a Unitoy rifle.
1 line tunic, 3-line belt, separate emblems, brown/black moustache, very dark brown scarf & boots. Poch/PBP L1a, R1a figure, M1a Unitoy rifle.
1 line tunic, 3-line belt, separate emblems, very dark brown moustache & scarf, brown/black boots. Poch/PBP L1b, R1b figure, M1d Unitoy rifle.
1 line tunic, blank belt, joined emblems, red/brown moustache, grey/brown scarf, light brown boots. Lili Ledy L1a, R2b figure, M4b Kader rifle.
