I sell the US Topps packs. Never seen UK versions. I have pictures of the pack fronts.

ok pete. is there a difference between the uk and other versions?

As i said, i've never seen UK versions. Don't even know if they were ever released here. Many Topps lines were not.
I have ESB series 1, 2 and 3 and O-Pee-Cee series 2 which is the european/french version.

So maybe Im well wrong here. what are the cards with the bubblegum stick that I used to buy in my local sweet shop as a kiddy in the 70s?

They may well have had them here. They did release some of the Star Wars Topps packs here.

But i've never seen ESB versions. If they do exist then they are rare.

Yep...I remember buying the blue/red cards as a kid. Pretty sure they were Topps....didn't they also make the Garbage Pail Kids cards the UK had around that time too?

Only the blue and red Star Wars card sets were released in this country. The display boxes are easy to spot as they're marked in pence and the packets have Palitoy info printed on them.

The U.K red set is numbered 1A, 2A, etc while the American ones carry on from the number the blue set ended on.

None of the ESB or ROTJ sets were released over here, which was a real shame. Topps Ireland were due to release at least one ESB set as they're listed in the ESB press book but the cards didn't make it to the shops.

All I have to hand is the blue set packet. Everything else is packed away.

Craig.

Yes, and the US versions have Kenner adverts on the back.
So this is basically what i suspected then. ESB Topps was never released in the UK but the earlier SW series was.
To be honest, mots Topps stuff you're better off getting the US versions anyway. The UK versions were often a complete car-crash. Like stated above they'd **** with all the numbers and the order of cards. Seemingly for no real reason. Same with GPK. The UK cards were much smaller and all the numbers were fecked after the 2nd series. They'r a nightmare to collect and don't look as good.

It's a shame they didn't continue with the cards in the UK after Star Wars release and I didn't realise there were even cards released in the US until several years ago. Saying that though I do still enjoy looking at my FKS ESB sticker album that was available in the UK on Empires release and also the ROTJ one. The ESB one does have fairly low quality stickers but does take me back to collecting them and also getting an empty box that I used to keep bits and bobs in.

The other giveaway for the UK versions is that they didn't contain a sticker, which the US ones did. This can be seen easily on the front of the US sereis 1, which states "Sticker in every pack". The front of the series 2 is different too, as the US one states New Series, where the UK one says Move Photo Cards.

They're a bugger to track down, particularly sealed. Here's are both UK Versions:
