Today on Facebook...

Found out last week that even when I don't have any involvement with a certain group, someone mistakenly thought it was a sock account belonging to me and got someone else banned. How sad

Yes, I guess I deserve that :)

Anyone interested search #findsimonsbox on FB, Twitter, Instagram etc. Wish me luck!!

I was wondering why you posted it. Were you selling it or just sending it away for a holiday?

That's a good question and I will start a thread with the back story. Bottom line I was an idiot agreeing to it!!

Person A asked for an AT ST top gun and hatch, person B then offered the gun for £15, I sent him a link to a nearly finished auction for a complete one at £15.

Did he say thank you?

Nope, the ****wit said he didn't trust eBay and if it's looks to good to be true then it is!!!

There really is no ****ing helping some people.

This fear of eBay seems rife all over FB.... hence the high prices we are now seeing on certain groups..

Still... I love eBay... buy things cheap and flip on FB for double bubble..

You should have got it, sold him the hatch and gun for £25 and then sold the rest for a tenner.

It's dickheads like that that are causing exactly what I was describing to happen.

I just don't understand the fear factor, I'd have accepted it if he just said he couldn't be arsed to do the buying, selling and posting. Ebay is by far the safest environment in terms of getting your money back, you just need to have the wherewithal to check what you've bought yourself or to at least know where to ask for help.

Suites me, more bargins ln eBay for us!
Seems that FB users feel safe there and nowhere else, no matter what the price. :?

**** a duck, he only went and bought another part for a fiver, running total £30! He could've added a tenner and got a complete boxed one.

I've never really understood this hatred of eBay or "evil bay" as I keep seeing it called. I've bought and sold on there for ten years with no more problems than you'd expect dealing with other human beings. 9/10 everything's fine if you know how to use it. It's a straightforward auction or buy it now format that works. Everyone acts like Jabbas Palace is some great revelation, what a load of bollocks. eBay have been doing it (better) for 20 years!

I agree, never had any major problems with eBay and never understood the hatred towards it. Ok they take a percentage, but what would my collection look like without eBay! :)

It's indoctrination

Facebook guys hype this thing up to be a monster. Any newbies (of which there are loads these days) get told it's a monster, they will loose their shirt, don't mess if you don't know what you are doing etc etc, and being new to the hobby they believe it all. They get told stories of fakes and cons and stay away. The propaganda machine on some groups works overtime to these ends.

The same guys spinning this yarn are buying off eBay every day to feed the Facebook groups with vehicle parts and other bits and bobs. Of course they want people to stay away. Despite all the posturing on Facebook, eBay is still the biggest vintage Star Wars marketplace in the world. It just requires a bit more knowledge than buying off a Facebook group. For some people this is too much effort.

I love ebay for finding vintage toys, iv'e had many amazing finds and bargains on there, the buyer has all the backup in the world in case anything goes wrong, ebay will support you and protect your purchases 100%.

I first discovered ebay in 2001 because of getting into vintage SW as a collector for the very first time, back when you had to actually to go a post office and ask for postal orders in specific amounts, then send them off in the post to your sellers to pay for your items  .. never had problems back then, and hardly get them now. Even when I had to send postal orders off with no way to get my money back I didn't get scammed one single time, sure there is the odd **** here and there but these days you have 100% protection anyway.

Most people who live on facebook are like sheep, they just follow what everyone else says and believes and copy each other to fit in.

I've bought off Jabba's Palace and got Repro in the auction. The guy commented on the post that I'd got a bargain. When I received it and said they're Repro he said the weapons weren't even meant to be in the photo and it was because his mrs took the shot. So either there is a lack of basic knowledge despite their no Repro stance, or just as many fakes and cons there too. eBay is still the best place as long as you ask the right questions.
