Just when i thought i'd got the hang of dodging these greedy bastards. Gonna have to step it up a notch from now on. Can't afford to take your eye off the ball with these despicable cunts. :x

Yeah i know, thing is i never ask for packages to be marked gift. I just tell em to mark it at around $30 and it's always fine. And you're taking to someone who receives 3-4 international packages a week! Never been a problem. Till now.

What rate are they charging??? If that was $30 surely that is around £20. and £7 of £20 is... maths.... or something...

I hate Royal Mail for this, recently got stung for a bunch of loosies. I paid about £30 total from US. Had to pay another £19 or so to get the package.

£15 is the threshold for merchandise, so $30 is too high. Needs to be more like $20 with the current exchange rate. I got stung recently for a $21 purchase, £2.50 VAT and £8 handling charge

Yeah, Edd is right - if it is not marked as a gift then £15 is the threshold - I think that they let some through but obviously not all the time

I always get them marked as a gift

Yeah, as Edd says, you're forgetting the £8 imaginary/made up handling fee. The £7 really wouldn't have bothered me. Afterall, the contents are worth well over 200.

I also specify GIFT and then the value can be upto $50. I myself normally recieve 5-10 parcels a month this way works everytime :)

These postal fees really annoy me but didn't someone post a code you can right on the box recently to get it through as a used toy or something?

Yeah I did & it took an age to get out of them, it applies to vintage still packaged items over 20 years old & means you only pay 5% vat rather than the standard 20% & is all legit & confirmed from the horses mouth, trouble is the thieving bastards deliberatly ignore it, I had a package turn up with it on with the code written in HUGE RED PRINT on 3 sides & they simply covered half of it over with there chage price sticker like Petes above

So even if you do the right thing they still **** you

So I have gone back to the illegal method of gift & low value

Hard lines Pete, sorry you got a soure taste of the RM in your mouth - taste bloody lingers don't it

So even if you use the code then they will want 5% and therefore you will still have to pay the RM handling fee ?

If you read the label it says you also attract VAT on gifts valued over £36. If you order frequently from the US then perhaps they've noticed your address and just decided to bitch slap you.

I recently received a package valued over $80 and had no charges. Item was marked as merchandise on the customs declaration and at full value. I guess the force was with me that day.

Is that what I think it is pete ;) contents wise that is
Maybe Ed... maybe. :p
Haha bloody £200 worth jeez you bought them all off him then?

its just an elaborate government scam to stop people getting bargains from properly run countries, another way for them to justify a 6 figure salary and 5 houses all paid for by us.
