Just watched Rambo. It was pretty good and there were some brilliant action moments, but I had a few issues with it -

Firstly the Sheriff. Why would he bother to pick on JR in the first place. It made no sense.

Secondly JR's bad attitude. Ok so he discovered his friend had died and he traveled all that way. But why did he not just be courteous with the Sheriff, who was obviously out of sorts that day, and move on?

I found myself thinking that JR was the aggressor. The cops were just roughing him up a bit and JR went nuts. He's supposed to be a professional soldier. Aren't they supposed to keep their cool and have excellent judgement :|

And then there's the Colonel. Where the hell did he appear from!?

I liked the film but thought Rambo should have had a better objective than just escaping from the cops who he pissed off, like in Commando when John Muscleman had to rescue his daughter.

Good action movie for its time though, and really watchable

Think the idea was to show that there was a great degree of ignorance in those days, we all are aware of the post traumatic stress disorder effects nowadays, but back then it wasnt in the public general knowledge domain, so that's why for its time it was a good social comment piece.

We all know what horrendous and day to day gut wrenching things our armed forces have to deal with in active duty now, and how that affects them on return to civi life. We owe a duty of care to these guys as they try to readjust and in a lot of cases have to deal with a lack of support and assistance on their return.

JR s attitude would be scripted in the film to reflect that I suppose and the sheer ignorance of the sheriff etc

The Colnel represented the old school hierarchy in place that were supposed to just cut JR loose at the mercy of the civilian police etc, and the colonel was represented as " stuff that, I'm going to help him, from an ethical point of view and from a code of honour point of view"

After all that its just a film, IMO a cracker and classic, shame the rest of the Rambos went into Flag waving pretentious crap, but first blood rocks for me

Sorry for the Rambo Ramble :D

I hear that Mike and you're spot on, but another actor might have put the PTSD across better. Stallone does one character and that's it. He's cool in the action scenes but should never, NEVER speak! his portrayal of Judge Dredd and Demolition Man are representative of that ...mainly Dredd

The cop pissed me off more than anything. He goes from being this ignorant but otherwise decent and wholesome small town sheriff, to having almost maniacal red mist. He goes back and forward throughout the movie.

The big thing was just the start. It should have been more traditional where JR goes into the small town. He's angry and upset. Goes into a hick bar. They don't like his hair and Italian looks. Fight breaks out. Cops lock him up and bully him. THEN he goes crazy ape bonkers :)

new game being released tomorrow have being waiting for this sometime now, given it looks shite however for any hardcore fan will be a treat so i will be buying it asap, just listening to the music brings back the memories of one of the all time greats, he went through alot did John in the first one all he wanted was a bag of crisps and a kit kat but they just kept pushing it, First blood 2 when he was just about to pull some hot bird some twat shot her which tipped him over the edge, Rambo 3, taking his best mate Colonel Trautman would only ignite the flame again, and last but not least Rambo which in all fairness was the ultimate carnage film we had all been waiting for and if that **** really goes on then they all deserve to be on Rambo's dinner menu,

The first actor to play Colonel Trautman was Kirk Douglas but he quit prior to shooting.

Amazing actor, legend and Oscar winner !

Agreed mate, Kirk Douglas made loads of fantastic films, but my favourite was
Lust for life...about Vincent Van Gogh ..bloody awesome a must watch if you've never seen it, portrayed the character superbly and a fantastic insight into the very troubled man Van Gogh was.
lonely are the brave..a brilliant western, and of course....Spartacus

Douglas was a fantastic actor no doubt :D

"Was" a great actor? He still is ! He is in his nineties but still a legend !

Lust for Life is great but I like the Kubrick WW1 Paths of Glory. He was amazing in that role.
