THE VINTAGE REBELLION : Episode 23 LAUNCHED

Awesome listen as always, the toy store owner interview was fantastic.
..and I reckon the bloke with the props in the LA section sounds like a right stud and probably looks like Harrison Ford or something. ..if you squint a lot........ whilst drunk........... in a dark room...... :)

Oh yeah, I think you meant PROPSTORE, not propmasters. Better correct that or I'll get beat up next time I have a pint with the boys. :)

The displays I built myself. .. amazing what you can achieve at home.....with just some sticky back plastic and leftovers..... and with access to an industrial laser cutter... and an engineering degree. . :)

Great show and look forward to the next one.

I'm about halfway through- another cracking listen as always. Nice to get a mention in the LA thread as well 8)

Just finished. Really enjoyed this episode. Pete's interview with the toy shop owner showed lots of insight with the Palitoy sales practices!

It was very interesting indeed and the shop keeper interview part was oddly what I enjoyed the most, it was a very visual interview and my memories of local toy shops started to flood my mind as I listened.

It would be good to hear a comment from Dave Tree about how he feels the independent retailer/supplier relationships may have changed over the years.

Working as a Buying & Merchandising manager (or equivelent) for large retail chains for decades my view is that the position has significantly changed in favour of the retailer who is now empowered to determine the cost prices and qtys that we require... even charging for shelf space of course to actually stock lines/ranges at high profile times of year.

In the toy sector it feels that this rings true pretty much with all suppliers outside of a couple of very large suppliers (guess which few...) and with those guys there are still a number of hoops to jump through to even be allowed to be a stockist, no matter what scale of retail operation you are from. I know from experience that the biggest worldwide supplier of bricks doesn't even issue samples to their biggest high street retail stockist!

Great episode. I too enjoyed the toy shop owners interview too as it took me back to my childhood buying figures from a small toy shop in Lymington (which is still there and recently brought a TFA figure from to complete the circle).

HOWEVER Petey, there was never a General Madine giveaway and a loose Imperial Shuttle aint £250.

Fantastic as always, guys. Thankyou.

Another mention from me of the Lemington Spa Shop feature. Really interesting and entertaining - it's really going the extra mile. I love to hear stories from the era. Which reminds me, please update us when 'Waiting For Star wars' is out digitally.

Respect is due to the other interviewees too.

Top stuff as per usual. That cheeky shop-keeper putting the prices up when the big stores were out of stock lol. That thing of companies forcing stores to buy certain stock, or limit what they can have is proper nasty. Remember my local guitar store wouldn't stock Fender because they had to buy a set amount of inventory in order to have the privelage of stocking Fender. Maybe this attitude is why Palitoy eventually went out of business.

Loved the episode as I always do. Have a soft spot in my heart for the Christian interview. He's one of the collectors I admire the most in the hobby. Contributes so much to the hobby, and always has his head on straight. Loved the interview.

Ahhhh thanks Ross! I have a soft spot for you too mate. I also have a hard spot for you too but we'll discuss that face to face.

Thanks for your feedback Edd. We're just having a bit of fun with the English language,we're aware what mechanics do :)

Guys great podcast! I've almost finished it but as always I wish it would just go on and on (a bit like some of my answers!).

Thanks again and keep up the fantastic work!

Just listened, and a great episode again! Thank you very much, lots of informative content and guests - 'Harmy' from the Despecialized Edition sure can talk! These episodes are really starting to feel like a highlight of the month when they appear, and are much appreciated.

Whilst I admit I fluffed it with the madine (I think I used to hide him away in box..), I just want to point Jamie to this auction

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262287270704

and

http://www.ebay.com/itm/252333179987 (admittedly slightly less, works out £220)

another went for £255 loose in sept 2015

Fair enough. Me and Iain sold boxed ones a few years ago at FF for £120 a piece. How the times change.
