What is the general view about the future of Palitoy collecting? Obviously with the recent information being brought to light there will be huge damage done. The previous time has now been forgotten, and we are heading for dark days ahead-perhaps even a mutiny of anything Palitoy SW.I for one think it is such a shame, but one thing is for sure-the logo figures will now skyrocket IMO,as it may well be the only way of obtaining Palitoy figures unless buying from a collector who bought them nack in the day.

Do some people think that there is the smallest possibility that even some logo,d cards are suspect?

IM not looking to anger or upset people, but it would help to discuss the impact.

It would be good to hear some views on this.

Lee,

Im gutted at whats happening.

I have no answer- but would strongly suggest that no one sells their stuff yet. We have no idea if this is a sprint or a marathon.

Nothing is yet set in stone, though it doesn't look good.

Things are moving forward every day and as long as everyone keeps doing all the great stuff they are doing, I believe we will have closure.

There is way to much passion and money invested in this for it to remain inconclusive.

Keep asking questions and taking photographs, we'll get there.

Agreed, too early to tell. We may never know the details and rely on educated guesses.

Although it's obviously a kick in the teeth for people that paid good money for them, one good thing to come of TOCs if we ever figure out a way of identifying them is that it could make some nice looking pieces more accessible to those on a budget. The hobby can be a bit elitest sometimes because of the silly prices some things go for, so personally I think it would be quite cool if it was possible to buy authentic(ish) good looking carded figures for £10-£20 each, just a little more than loose figures. I'd certainly buy some, it's a lot closer to owning the real thing than customs or reseals.

They would obviously always have a stigma attached and more serious collectors wouldn't be interested, but that's really no different from tri logos in the 90s or the fake Transformers Lee mentioned that are now accepted as part of their hobby.

i reckon as has already been said that items that are found not to be from toni will go through the roof pricewise, people that have bought from toni regardless of them being fake or not will find their collections being worthless in the eyes of the community, dealers that have been buying and selling toni mocs will be getting people wanting their cash back and if theyve been sold on the bay will have paypal claims put in against them simply because theres now no gaurentee they are original regardless of afa/ukg grading. i suppose the reality of items being graded will have no affect on the graders as theyve been around so long ( since before the graders ) how would they have been able to tell as all they had to go on is whats come before which has been toni mocs which have set the standard to start with. the fact that figures are on case fresh cards should have no impact at as ive bought kenner mocs from elsewhere which have been just as good and as fresh as toni mocs one example being an r2 12 back a with sku footer which graded a 90 which i sold on to mark yeo about a year ago.
it is indeed a sad time but at least all those with kenner collections will be laughing their arses off. im glad i sold up and started with baggies instead now.

in all honesty if someone stuck an AFA 90 carded ROTJ light blue Fett on ebay for £200 quid I would defo buy it but dont think they will ever go that cheap still even if proven.

would you think it was worth it though? or would you be thinking theres the distinct possability its fake?

I forgot i said that, in all honesty i dont know but right now i cant see them as real even as much as i want them to be, and that goes for all palitoy ROTJ ones on that list now, even if they are 100 percent genuine factory sealed as who really knows now.

As Yoda would say:-

Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.

I think cards with the Palitoy logo on them have always been more collectible than the non logoed stuff, and that reflects in the prices
realised for the non high end AFA graded stuff, up until now.

We have some good evidence that only a few esb 45b figures and some rotj 45 and 65 back figures were recarded for Palitoy.

The evidence we have is 3 fold:-

JJ's list
Tonis for sale list on his web site over the years
The AFA population reports

The trouble is that all Palitoys are being tarred with the same brush, with values realised dropping the closer to the TOCs you get.
So in terms of desirability we have:-

12/20 backs
30/41/45a backs
45bs for non TOC figures
45c's and 65 backs for non TOC figures
TOC figures

Figures with large number of TOCs will suffer worst, we can already see multiple C3PO removable limbs on ebay with the prices
dropping if they sell at all.

So in the short term I think all prices across the board will drop for Palitoy, with recovery and eventually higher prices at the opposite
end of the Palitoy spectrum from TOC.

Also figures with many TOCs which are MOC shop worn with price stickers will be worth more than AFA 90 graded examples. Go figure!

:)

plus a few people sold the knock off ones as original and even some got graded

I'm absolutely gutted for the collectors who have inadvertently got stung with these TOCs. I've always held Palitoy in high regard, the brand was such a massive part of my childhood. I can't help feeling ToyToni has now made a mockery of that red and blue logo... but I will still fly the flag for this once great Coalville company, and continue to collect; sticking to the early years of their output.

I don't see as long term its a major issue, Tonis stuff is pretty easy to recognise and there are only a limited amount of figures affected. A lot of people over on RS seem to have made the conclusion all Palitoy items are tainted but nearly all of then go onto say but I don't collect Palitoy anyway.

Palitoy are partly to blame too for allowing a third party to get ahold of all this unused stuff

It's gutting thinking of all the hard earned cash fine into this ****, I really hope he gets a smack in the mouth for this.

I do think palitoy logo card value will rise even more now due to the lack of people risking the TOC crap out there
