Anyone read the deal that went south recently posted by Mete Atkin on FB?

Some crazy guy score a poorly listed lot of 10-12 Hungarian bootleg MOCs for under $1k but worth over $40k.

Is that a deal of the a lifetime?

It can't be far off.

The guy (not mete) is a fruit loop. The money being talked about is crazy. It's only a matter of time until a deal turns really sour.

$40k on bootlegs isn't fun money anymore.

$40k ??? Is that kind of money really moving around now for vintage starwars figures??
If it is true '**** me' that's worries me that people are spending that value of money on abit of plastic.
It's probably a windup I hope

Not even official plastic either lol

But yes, that sort of cash is indeed being tossed around

The scary thing is I had a gut feeling it was true.

This was Mete's post

"Watch out - Tim Emmerson. I rarely do watch outs on failed transactions, but given the dollar amount and complete dickishness of this guy, I think it's important for others t be aware.

Me and Tim agreed to a high dollar deal for 2 items of his which I would be buying with cash and trade items. He actually had duplicates of the 2 items I would be getting (that is, 2 of each). They were obtained in a poorly worded ebay auction and it was quite literally the best ebay find I've ever witnessed.

Anyways, he originally sent me pics of all 4 items. I was to get 2 of them. We agreed on the deal, what I would send in terms of cash and trade. I made an overly generous offer because I wanted these. There was a clear bubble and yellow bubble version of one of the pieces, and I asked for clarification which one I would be getting, and if possible, would prefer the clear bubble one. Here are some excerpts from the response

"The pics I sent were the two I offered per say. You asked for my doubles...I sent pics........You know what....the ****in price just went up *$5k more* cash....buy a plane ticket. Rick Springfield lives in driving distance of me........and I have connections. I don't **** around dude."

Okayyyyyyy....so I try to be as calm as possible, tell him he is wrong because I never got pics if the 2 I was buying, just a photo of 4 of the pieces. I'm thinking he just wants to find some excuse to extort more money out of the deal. And after my response, I get this:

"I deal high stakes with dangerous people all the time. I almost shot 3 men dead on Thursday. Gangsters with lots of facial tattoos that tried to throw their weight around at my work. Their intent was to rob me, my store and do god know what to my girl who was utterly terrified. They Failed

Be thankful for this, it means you still have a chance to acquire these items, albeit not at the original price/trade. I understand it may be in your best interest to walk away at this juncture..... perfectly fine by me. Any transaction for these items will be done in person, face to face, for cash or gold. If you want lawyers present....you are paying for mine. Let it be known that my lawyer is armed at all times and that I trained him on the use of firearms myself. Forgo the lawyers and there will still be armed men present. I told you I don't **** around....might be a good idea to take heed.

It may also be a good idea to re-read my emails and try to understand with whom you are dealing. By now it has crossed your mind that I am not your run of the mill, self fellating toy collector. Although I Love these toys.....I have no problem destroying them in front of your face and then use them to massage my prostate......just to prove a point.

Choose your next words wisely....take your time, please. My price is *5k more* for the two I sent pics of. I will not budge on that figure and if I sense the slightest bit of condescension the price goes up 5k.

I truly wanted this to go smoothly and had every intent to honor every word I stated in the past.

Hey Man, look on the bright side. If you have the balls to come *visit* and do a smooth deal with me, I will spend some of the extra money on showing you a good time while you are here. If not, please don't bother replying. I have more pressing matters to attend to"

So that's the kind of guy he is. Beyond all the shitiness you're reading, I think he passively threatened to send his firearm trained lawyer to shoot me?!

Stay safe everyone and don't deal with this crackpot"

Plastic??? What are you guys talking about!!

These are the items the deal was talking about

Holy ****! Firstly for the guy with the fully armed lawyer, and secondly for the Hungarian bootlegs. The Vader in particular is EXTREMELY rare with there probably being less than 10 good examples known to exist. I don't even know about Yoda but I suspect he is just as rare - especially THAT condition.

Far out - all four were bought for less than $1K....... to THAT bloke. There is no justice in the world sometimes.

Exactly!! Recently Shaun from Dallas Vintage Toys had a graded ESB Toltoys VCJ MOC, how can that happen????????????????

As much as I have been laughing at how rediculous that situation is, it does concern me what with all the new blood on the scene and the prices the high end items are achieving.

Is this really what our hobby has come to where deals need to be done with armed guards and threats of violence and is this the sort of thing we can expect more of?

Not the first time bootleg guys have offered more money to secure rare items after a deal has been done, probably will not be the last. Some are ruthless without a conscience....

Wow, what an email to receive! I could barely read that with a straight face. Obviously thinks he can get more cash elsewhere and got all keyboard ninja. Sad that arse holes like that get hold of good stuff to ransom.

I doubt its just the bootleg guys James... Seems the world has gone a little crazy. The days of a Gentleman's agreement are gone it would seem.

Then again, maybe not.

Somewhat hard to take that reply seriously, especially as this image popped into my head when reading it:

dontworry-imfromtheinternet.jpg

If there was a any justice everyone would boycott him so he'd have to cave but as others have pointed out someone will deal with him.

I just read that   is that signs of crack use ?? Maybe Robert Mc Call has started dealing in vintage Star Wars

On a Side note I can do him a good deal on a very rare Dorset bootleg say 10 grand and throw in some body armour for my lawyer

Did anyone notice this bumped to the top just now ? 'captainmorgan' it was your post you said you were the guy looking 40k. Did you take it down again? It seems to have not stayed up what you posted? If you were looking people to contact you by email it's not showing up!
I am not interested myself it's just others have also probably missed your post :)
Maybe you wer having a bit of fun? If so no worries :)

Was given a heads up on this thread (it's Mete). This guy is the biggest douche in the universe. Reminds of that south Park episode :) as for the pieces - I'm not a new fly by collector (been collecting boots for 8 years), and it seems most don't know how rare these are. Prior to this, to my knowledge only 2 carded yodas and 3-4 vaders. They're at the top of the food chain as far as bootlegs go. There are prolly 5 or 7 carded dt Ben's for each one of these - and given that these cost $5-8k each, and a carded dt ben is what $30- $40k in today's market?! So hopefully that puts it in peespective. Any serious bootleg collectors would go big on these pieces. Too bad the guy is such a dick.
