The future of the SWF....

It looks as if that has never been a very busy forum though Andy.

But maybe it can be used for a new saying: "to go the way of the Wampa". :D

I like it

I had an account there. One of the admins asked me to sign up. It was always a dead board. I made 5 whole posts there. :p This is one of the reasons I always hate signing up to all these new boards. I tell people time and again that it's bad to split the community. There's only so many people and there's only so much traffic and, really, only so much to say. I have an account on Galactichunter too. There hasn't been a post there in ages. Jedidefender has always been slow but all the people who got banned from RS went there because they had no place else to go. RS is the dominant board and has been for years. I don't stay there out of any allegiance to the board, it's to the community. If the whole vintage community left there and went back to newsgroups (rasscv) like Chris Fawcett tried to spearhead years ago I'd go there. There's always going to be one main place to meet. I understand some of you may not like RS but like us or hate us there's a wealth of knowledge there and splinter boards like this, Imperialgunnery, etc. just splits the community and that's a bad thing overall.

ah but it's much cosier here :)

most of us still post on RS when we get the time, but I take your point about splitting knowledge

The Wampa's Cave

I found this site today, there's a few familiar faces but it's not been used in 3 years - could this be us one day?

I doubt it Spoons. I've been a member here since 2006, I know I've only made a handful of posts, but I read every other day at least. I've not collected steadily due to financial reasons, but I've always maintained an interest in Vintage Starwars and have literally learned bucket loads about the hobby from this site alone. The way I see it is 'if you can't afford it yourself then enjoy someone else having it' the latest auquisitions thread is I'm sure you will all agree FANTASTIC!!

I'm not a member of RS, but I do read often, and what a fantastic informative site it is. But I regard the SWF as an ever changing and evolving community of it's own.

I think it's probably fair to say that most serious collectors generally flip between RS and this board.

SNAGGLE :D (my opinion is just my opinion, after all I'm just a lurker)

I think the knowledge is heavily concentrated on RS, but here is just a lot more fun.

one of the benefits of here is being able to post ****, ****, PISS, WANK, U GRADES...WTF.

but i post on both, two is enough for me really

I'm a member of four forums,here,RS,T.I.G & SWCC & one of the benefits is when people have stuff for sale, some of them only post on one forum so i have a better chance of finding something that i'm after! :D

Like most of you I'm a member of here and RS. I see the benefits (and draw backs) in both. I don't really have time to check other boards. I'm a member on Jay's Imperial Gunnery, and it looked very good when I signed up, but I don't have time to check it or IOP etc.

I guess boards come and go as the people in the hobby, and their preferences, change. Hopefully this place will still be around in a few years. Other wise I'll have to resort to slaggin Bollux by text message!

I try an get involved on said forums also, its not that hard to keep up with it all.

I agree with most. RS and the SWF is all I really need. I generally dont have the time or the energy to be posting on loads of different forums especially when most of the folk on the other forums are all on here and on RS. I also noticed that on the other SW forums its just the same topics that youll find here and on RS so there isnt much need for them in my opinion. Just my 2 pence worth.

I was happy with this place and RS..I also pop in and say hi on SWCC ebay a fair bit , Yakface.com and mousedroi.com get the occasional look in also..though mainly for the dioramas and customs :)
The new tig forum is taking off, but it's the same faces pretty much.

I'm not really sure being able to curse should be counted as a benefit. I've been here for a bit now and I don't think I've used this option once. The only time it would really come out is if I got mad at somebody and who does that really help? LOL

I'm glad nobody took what I said personally because it wasn't a knock against other boards just against splitting up the community. It creates an us vs. them mentality. In the past people talked crap about me here, a LOT of crap, and I always saw this as THE OTHER BOARD and I've seen people refer to RS as the other site. How does that help? There's a fine group of collectors on both and bridging the knowledge base only helps. I undertstand the rules can be tough at RS sometimes, I've had issue with some things that were done in the past myself, but it is Philip's site and usually things can be worked out. Hell, I've almost crossed the line a ton of times but in 9 years of posting I've never been suspended and only warned once so it's not *that* strict. LOL

Hi John,

The reference i put was a humorous one, not an actual benefit :) you cant tell sarcasm via text. i use both and i wont venture onto any more than these two purely because i cant be arsed to check loads of forums.

I know where the experts are when i need them and i think both sites are great, its good to come on here and have a laugh posting picks of stupid stuff and its all taken lightheartedly.

And the knowledge and friends i have gained from both sites is a major factor.

Andy

I don't get to post that much on any site, but RS and SWF are the only two I post on.

I do like both sites but for quite different things.

RS is by far the larger site so for a larger range of info/knowledge and opinion i'd deffinitely go there.

For a smaller circle of people, many of whom I have met in person, and for a slightly more relaxed approach to collecting I think SWF is ideal.

I see your points, and fair points from both of you.

And, Andy, I knew it was sarcasm but there is a certain amount of truth to it. Some do enjoy the freedom to not have to censor their words. I curse like a sailor in person but between work and RS I've just learned to keep it toned down in text. However, on my worst day I'm not as bad as some of you Euro guys, UK and Scotland in particular. You guys have some real potty mouths. I think you guys just make up new curse words sometimes. LOL

John I know what you mean mate. I hate those guys too.

PS I think its more that English and Irish members that bring this place down with their shocking ****ing language
