I can't turn off the reactions, I can remove them to just one, but what fun is that?
Good to see you all active on the site again!

Thanks michael also great to see you hereGood job Lars! Got people back posting
good to see you back posting as well Ponch!
I don't think many read the guidelinesI think if people are aware of the need to post, rather than just 'like' it should be ok.
Maybe add it to forum guidelines, post a reminder etc.?
Yes especially when blackbeard use the love button on usYeah on the like button, I think it's down to us as individuals to stop being lazy and post more. Would be a shame to lose the option of the like button completely.
Great to see you here on the forum againHi guy's and girls, thought I'd say a quick hello to everyone.
Like many have already said SWFUK was the first place I found as a community when I came into the hobby and through buying and selling and interaction on the various threads I not only increased my knowledge within allsorts of different collecting avenues I met a whole load of like minded people with many becoming lifelong friends.
My collecting has scalled right down in the last few year's so I have not really been active in the hobby of late but I do log on to the forum every now and again over the last few years thinking to myself it was sad that the forum had appeared to have had it's day.
I'm glad to see this post / thread and that it seems to have spawned a little life back into the forum.
I must admit when someone posts happy birthday to someone they live with its oddIn a nutshell, Colin! I've recently deactivated my FB, because of the aimless scrolling, FOMO and utter ******** from so many people- even my friends! Awful that so many people spend their days like that. Who says Happy Birthday to their son/daughter/other half on Facebook, when they live in the same house? The whole thing is ridiculous!
So many people do it thoughI must admit when someone posts happy birthday to someone they live with its odd

Hi folks. I didn't know where to comment. I'm not sure even if i should start a new thread but based on all of this discussion and the great work which is being done to keep the forum going i just wanted to say that on the latest episode of Generation Skywalker's: Those Old Fossils (the Vintage Collecting show) we discuss the forum in depth.
3 of the 4 of us on the recording reminisce about the past and speculate as to why people drifted to Facebook, however I then go on to explain about some of the threads which have caught my eye and how being back on the forum felt strangely comforting and safe. Far less narcissistic than some facebook groups feel and much more wholesome.
I have since left loads of facebook groups and/or turned off the notifications for them, i don't miss them!
The conversation included highlighting the wide variety of content and discussion on here. We even seemed to turn Craig into a believer, he's never joined any forums before. I'm hoping that some of our listeners who have never been here before might join and get involved.
The show isn't out yet, maybe later today but i just wanted to give you the heads up that there is a whole section on the forum threads and a bit of promotion for it.
Great to see you here on the forum again, I hope you will continue your guide on the forumSOMETIMES I CHECK IN JUST TO WIRELESSLY SMELL THE PLASTIC.
I miss the good days.
peace

It's on my list of things to do.
I have some more variants lined up. Let's see what 2026 brings lol
1 last thing whilst I have it in my mind, the "like" feature which has been added on here like it is on FB, I personally think it's a bad thing as folks think hitting the like is interacting & I feel it stops many posts (even if only a that's cool etc) from happening & is part of the general laziness of social media & instant gratification vibe, that could be scrapped I'd say - don't shoot me, just airing my musings
I don't wish to be rude, but if you're going to join a forum, it might be advisable to research what that forum is actually about first, rather than joining a vintage Star Wars toy forum and then being surprised that its main focus is vintage Star Wars toys. That is true while on the other hand it does get repetitive seeing a bunch of "nice" "good job" "that's amazing" etc. kind of posts. When people are extra amazed at the topic they usually end up posting.
I joined this place on a prop/costume related search and started with the prop section. Then I found out it's primarily vintage toy collecting, not only that it's also primarily oversees while I'm an American. The name of the forum does not convey that. I assumed it was a catch all official forum. In my honest opinion that hinders the forum. I particularly don't care for toys even though they seem to be the main focus when it comes to collecting anything Star Wars. I prefer the very thing the actors held or wore on set of the films because that's what I grew up watching. I wanted to be immersed into the Star Wars galaxy. Be the very thing I loved watching and interact with others through cosplay as these characters with the props and costumes they use. That's my idea of expressing my fandom to Star Wars.
I sometimes post in the Prop section but I still can't help but feel a little out of place because the focus is on vintage toys. I feel expanding the forum would help it dramatically and possibly help attract more people.
Right now it is very limited in my opinion.

Also, claiming that the name of the forum doesn't convey that it isn't an American site is nonsense. The forum is called SWF.UK, but even if you go by just the URL (starwarsforum.co.uk), it's still perfectly obvious that the site is very probably going to be from a UK perspective.
As hard as it might be for an American to understand, the rest of the world does not revolve around America. The presence of 'UK' in the forum's title and URL really ought to indicate to everyone that the site is not just primarily an overseas one from an American perspective, but is in fact primarily about UK collecting.
That said, it's always been the case that other topics are covered here in addition to its main focus of UK vintage Star Wars toy collecting, just as you have found out yourself via the prop section, so I'm really not sure what you're complaining about.
All collectors from all over the world have always been very welcome here, but if you'd rather the forum primarily focused on something else, perhaps you should consider joining one elsewhere that better focuses on what you want?
@vadersome really good points. Not really thought about it in that way before, but think you're definitely onto something. The big question is how much do we value the current forum identity? Are we prepared to change it up a bit? I think it's always had a unique selling point, but in recent times, that's not really been enough...
That's a bit brutal, BUT at the same time very true.I might get stick for this, but it sticks in the craw a little when users who used to frequent the forum and offer some fantastic content, only come back on here to promote their podcasts (runs for cover!).
