Make fun all you want Todd. Guys doing this should disclose what they are doing when selling their shite. To use the argument that it's graded, goes back to the reasons why we still need to disclose Toni MOC's. Have the balls to come out and tell people the tweaking that's being done to this stuff instead of doing it in the shadows and thinking you can pull the wool over people's eyes.

It doesn't have to be about needing to call them out, but if people are going to blow it off as something that's been done, no harm, then they are going to get called out.

That's a fair argument actually. But the crusaders, and witch hunters that have been going for the jugular against the repro guys, especially the replicator dude making boxes and inserts, have had a zero tolerance attitude, take no prisoners approach, which went as far as calling out an RS admin for promoting Orme's work.

Their argument (and one I agree with) is the down the line aspect - what happens when this stuff is sold to someone who unscrupulously fails to disclose what they are, or what's been done with them.

We can't pick and choose which things harm the hobby, and which we give a free pass, just because it suits our purposes or collecting goals.

Personally, I would prefer these things are left alone. And if people can't keep their hands off, tell me what you've done.

I think there has been some amazing saves using the lighter fluid and starch/water on old boxes, bringing back to life stuff that otherwise would be fit for the bin, mike and others have done great work using these techniques, and i think as long as people know whats been done its a good way to restore beater boxes.

Comparing cleaning a box or cardback to Ormes shite is utter crap and not even on the same level at all.

Need to add a little. and thinking that we all clean these things just to sell them is insulting. Maybe..just maybe...we like our items to be free of dust. Maybe we do not like our boxes on display to look like they have been sat on by an elephant. Maybe we do not like price tags on Lukes face.

If I have cleaned something...removed a price sticker or have not altered something from it's original production form..I feel no need to advertise that when I sell it. That is not saying I am hiding anything....hell..I may not even remember I cleaned a cardback and what does it really matter. This is one of stupidest topics I have seen in a while.


To vilify any of us and comparing us to Ormes is opening a can of worms.

I'm sorry but I disagree with needing to mention this if we're talking about taking a sticker off of a card back and giving it a wipe. Pen touch ups and hiding damage with stickers ect is understandable but as has been said previously it feels like the fun is being strangled out of this hobby at times.

One thing I will mention though is that since sending the AFA ones off (not by me though), any sticking removal/repositioning is for ones in my collection that will stay with me. If these get sold on after I'm gone then it will be pretty obvious if the paper has disintegrated where I cleaned them up.
