The 1980's

But it wasn't just any game of footie.............................

That goal by Mickey Thomas sent a 10 year old boy to bed in tears, and kissed every player on my 'Match' poster

That was a painful night for the pool supporting jr and I (as we did back then) and yes there were tears but not of joy

Cassettes 8) They were ****ing great! CD's are so bad it's unbelievable. True you can have decent sound quality but only until they are scratched by touching them or dropping one on the floor of your car!

For Christmas my wife bought me a record player so we can play some of the old tunes that have been in storage. They are perfect. Most are past twenty years old and every single 7 or 12 inch plays perfectly. CDs i bought last year are already ****ed, and i take care of them!

Love the 80's 8)

Somewhere i have a load of Grolsch tops linked up in a chain

Thinking about cassettes - the best car I ever had was a 1986 205 GTI - it had a cassette player, do remember a few 'tape salad' incidents though

Wish I kept that car, drove like a go kart, stuck to the road like glue, light as a feather, bright red carpet, cheap n nasty dash, but it was all part of it's charm - don't make cars like that anymore :(

They really don't make cars like that anymore :x Today they are too full of crap like emissions control, air bags, ABS, computers, sat nav, sound proofing, climate control, pollen filters for ****'s sake! Cars don't even rust these days because there's there's so much bloody paint on them. Modern cars suck ass!

XR3i ...a 1980's legend

As said every decade has good and bad points, both personally and in general. But the 80s is the only decade that I have purely good memories from, as I was born in 81 so was still a young child in 89. I have good and bad memories of the 90s/00s etc as I was old enough to have problems. Luckily all I needed in the 80s was a great family :)

I was from the ZX81 fraternity, that graduated onto the ZX Spectrum.... with always a backward glance to the Commodore 64, but sadly this computer was out of my reach.

Music-wise? Jackabina, I've no idea how you can be so negative about one decade  who could've forgotten about this little gem? Rollerskating on the South Bank: this is where it was at....

At some point in the 90's i was proper anti 80's music, and i'm talking about the Stock Aitken & Waterman type brand of pop. Now though i've definitely made my peace with it all. At home we have Absolute 80's on a lot and it seems like every tune that comes on brings back a memory or makes me think that they really knew what they were doing back then. Some of the tunes are so evocative. Let's Dance and Land Down Under really bring back memories for me. Pass the Dutchie is another one. Great tunes 8)

The 80s are the decade of choice in my humble household! Breakfast Club was on tv last night, ah the memories!

As a decade, it had some real problems, and has created a massive hangover. But for entertainment it was magic. I saved like a loony for my Commodore 64, marvellous. Still love the classic games for then like Robotron, Paperboy, Commando, Sensible Soccer...

Great movies, BMXing, arcade games, hilarious telly and a musical decade which is sometimes mis-remembered for Stock Aitkin Waterman bollocks instead of the huge amount of quality on offer. Loads of my faves on your list Pete - Cure, Mode, Metallica, Public Enemy, Talking Heads, Cure... also love Slayer, Prince, The Pogues, Boogie Down Productions, Sisters of Mercy, ABC, U2, Suzanne Vega, Dire Straits, Sepultura, Japan, Ramones, Human League...

I've posted this before, but here's the demented Welsh genius of the mighty GLC and their ode to all things 80s - including a mention of collecting SW figures around 2:10. Ninteeeneiighteeethreeeeee. You knows it.

Jesus how did i forget Prince. I reckon i DJ Prince every single time i play. Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, Let's Go Crazy, I Wanna Be Your Lover, When Doves Cry, Kiss.... what a ****ing genius!

U2 i've always seen as the most overrated band in history tho their ONLY good album was Joshua Tree which contained 2 or 3 classics.

Yeah, U2 are hugely over-rated but War and Unforgettable Fire both have some fine tunes on and Joshua Tree is magic. Bono is an ass but if I'd sold a gazillion records, quite honestly I'd be insufferable! Love the Harry Enfield + Paul Whitehouse U2 skits, dead funny.

Agree with U2 being overrated but Achtung Baby and Zooropa are brilliant albums. Their chest beating stadium rock prior to that does nothing for me.

No-one's mentioned the films yet!

Spent the afternoon watching Ghostbusters on some snide Channel 5 channel. Some other cracking blockbusters around then, none of this squash as much **** as you can onto the screen at 100mph like you get these days.

Did some work this afternoon and had Absolute 80s on the radiogram, and some right old toot they played too. Marvellous! As a 'recovering Goth', I do of course have often lamentable taste in music. A few more - Kate Bush, Siouxie and the Banshees, The Damned, Iron Maiden, New Order, Psychedelic Furs, Adam Ant.

Film-wise I'm a sucker for loads of (occasionally dodgy) 80s flicks, like - John Hughes films, Tron, Dark Crystal, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Coming to America (or any of Eddie Murphy's best films), Karate Kid, E.T., Bladerunner, Aliens, Die Hard, Full Metal Jacket, Lost Boys, Withnail and I...

I find it impossible to turn off the tv of Goonies, Short Circuit or Gremlins are on. Same for Crocodile Dundee or Heathers!

Indeed Stevie, Ghostbusters is an absolute gem!

Think I have to concede that I'm hopelessly stuck in the past. You go ahead, leave me here, I'm done for!

can i just say you have asked a bunch of blokes who grew up in the 80.s building dens ,climbing trees ,enjoying summers that went on for ever ,total stress free listening to new and fresh music playing with the latest toys which decade they prefer hmmmm .ask any one best time of their lifes and they will say its when they were a kid ....young free and carefree .........i always wondered as a kid why my parents used to listen to **** from the 60,s in car on way to our hols (in butlins  ) because it reminded em of being totally carefree .

can i also addd we used to go on hol with all family ,and its a big family and next year were planning to take all our kids n there kids and our aunts nn uncles away to a caravan park to show em what a holiday should be like .....................they might not like it but its how i remember thee good times lol

and remember if ye could slip a ten pence piece in a slot for a credit ...it was worth having a bash on .....long live the 80,s ............and early 90,s hardcore and pills lol
