The 1980's

So what are other people's take on the 1980's? Love or hate?

For me it was the time i went to school, Star Wars toys, films, comics, sweets, etc. Some questionable but great fashion and music. Times were definitely different than they are now. I look back on the era with fond memories. However i am aware that it wasn't all great what with mass unemployment, Thatcherism, Falklands war, and so on. What do you reckon?

I was married at the tender age of 18 in 1983

Lived through the new romantic era, had the curtain haircut, tukka boots and whit t shirt and navy tank top :lol: thought I was cool as F**k :?

Prior to that was a punk :wink:

Some classic music and fashion, great films, and a sense of hope, thatcher did turn us all over though
Council tax was a nasty little toy :!:

I do think the 80 s spawned a more materialistic ethos and is responsible for a loss of culture in this country, but it also gave us Duran Duran so hey what can you say :lol:

The 80 s were as any other decade god bad and ugly but life's what you make it

I'd give anything the have bands and groups like that these days. Wow.
There was also an endless flow of awesome one-off pop songs and a lot of awesome funk and soul. When i DJ i definitely play more 80s than any other decade. It's the go-to decade for most DJs.

I loved the 80's and I love reminiscing about the good times and all the great things that happened during them.
As for most of us I was at school loving all the amazing things on tv and in the cinema - A Team, Street Hawk, Knight Rider, V, Air wolf.
Birthdays and Xmas was SW toys. No internet or dvds so any magazine article or picture was gold and promptly stuck up on my bedroom wall and It was genuinely exciting when one of your favourite films was shown on tv.
Music was fantastic and as soon as I hear tracks (especially from movie sountracks) it takes me right back. No mp3 players or digital downloads so you only had the music you bought (or copied - the joy of tape to tape) and subsequently played to death. Remember the excitement of CD's Cordless phones and the big one for me - MK2 Golf GTI

Handful of decent bands in that lot Pete, but the best ones are those for whom parts of the 80's were just a part of their career. In general I find all that synthesized stuff was rubbish.

Star Wars, A-Team, Ulyesses 31, Girls, Skateboarding, Raleigh Mustang etc, I was 5 in 1980 so the 80's was awesome fun for me.

The ZX Spectrum, and Commodore 64 for the rich kids = 80s. Awesome time. Copying mates' games onto tapes. Waiting 10 mins for the games to crash right at the end and then rewinding!

One of the stand out moments for me as a kid was my dad letting me stay up to watch a game of footie.
But it wasn't just any game of footie.............................
...................................................................Winterburn launches what must surely be their last attack, Dixon to Adams, to Smith, Smith through the middle..............................it's up for grabs noooooow!!
That goal by Mickey Thomas sent a 10 year old boy to bed in tears, and kissed every player on my 'Match' poster :lol: :lol:

Spent plenty of hours copying games onto blank cassette tapes and even more wasted hours waiting for a game to load only for it to crash at the end.

And why was it when a game repeatedly crashed all the time, you took it back to the shop to exchange it, only for them not to believe you and 'test' the game on their computer and it would work! :evil:

Cassettes 8) They were ****ing great! CD's are so bad it's unbelievable. True you can have decent sound quality but only until they are scratched by touching them or dropping one on the floor of your car!

For Christmas my wife bought me a record player so we can play some of the old tunes that have been in storage. They are perfect. Most are past twenty years old and every single 7 or 12 inch plays perfectly. CDs i bought last year are already ****ed, and i take care of them! :evil:

I caught my kids once cellotaping CDs onto their feet and going skating on the laminate floors. Was and wasn't impressed.
