Hi Everyone,
Merry Christmas to all and may your happy new year filled with rare toys to all :)
This is what I have at the moment and it has been stored this way for about 10 years:

I was reading on here and the net about storage of loose figures and I came accross the danger of leaving these beauties in air tight zip lock bags
I got my collection out today to have a look and thankfully all is well. Some I bought in bags from ebay, boot sales and from shops that were about at the time and tave all been left in the bags that I bought them in. I have been through all the bags now and noticed that out of all of them there were on or two bags that had a supermarket plastic carrier bag feel and quality to them, where as the others all had a thick vinyl feel and were of better quality.
I did read that some people found storing in bags to be ok, while others warned against this. I wondered if it was due to the quality of the storage bags.
I also read that some advise to put holes in the bags to let them breathe, but I thought that having them sealed ad keepig the air out would be the way to go?
Here are some of the different bags I came accross while checking through mine:

The empty one feels like the supermarket carrier bag thin plastic, while the others feel thicker and are of better quality. I do apologise for rambling on, but really wanted to get some advice so that I minimize the risk of yellowing and discolouration. I felt all the figs and they all felt dry apart from the two that were in the poor quality bags which felt a tiny bit slippery.
The figures stored in the collector cases were in bags and in the cases, which were then wrapped in bubble wrap. Should I take these out of the bags and store the cases without being wrapped.
I would love to at one stage have them in display cabinets with the UV protected glass and mounted on the wall, but unfortunatly I have another 80's collection taking up all the space:

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time in reading this post. I would like to see other peoples loose figure display and has anyone made there own figure wall display or had one built???
Cheers fella's and have a happy new year :D

I have also had my figures in 10 years in bags and vinyl cases, until last years when I began to unpack them and display them.

I do not know much about what is the correct way to go, but after 10 years my figures still look the same :D

Thanks for the replies chaps. Any info is allways gratefully recieved. Would hate for this lot of figs to deteriorate in any way.
Is it important for your display case to have UV protected glass and what cases / cabinets are people using??
The bikes are a skyway streetstyler, GT performer and GT mach one all from the 80's. Burners are no good really the American bmx's are way better and more sought after :D
Sorry if that goes off topic a bit :D

Nice BMX another off my childhood loves :D

About the the storage thing.

1. I have my own 100+ lose figure childhood collction wich was just store in a bag and in cases etc . In my old room at my mom's house . Some got spots, some got yellow , some got iced / frost on them . Other did not , and look just off the cards .
Same thing with the ships , mini rigs , the rest og the cut bubbels on my cardback colltion .

2 . I have just red a book written by a plastic conservation specialist that work at the dansih national museum.

It is not fun reading to say it hars . ALL our toys are gona fade , discolor with time  And theres nothing to do about it .

To cut it short what the book says . It has ALOT og chemical and plastic type talk .

The biggist killer are ... air , light and water and once the discoloration starts . There reall nothing to stop it . As it is a cemical proces that can't be stoped .

All 3 things destroy the the plastick .
So keep the stuff in air tight containers ( acid free ) Keep them in the dark , And keep them away from water . Even sweat from your hands .

The book even says that all the the major museums and art galleries are not happy to buy artworks and stuff if they contain plastik . As they know the will break down within as little as 10+ years

One of the most shocking thing i read in the book . Is plastik produced the same way , same place, and afterwards keept under the same circumstances . Can start to break down in difrent times .

3. As you said all your figs are in great shape after 10 years in the bags. Keep them there :)

Cheers for the info Søren, good to know.

Love the BMX's,I reluctantly let go of my 1982 Mongoose Supergoose recently,I died a little inside when I sold it. :(

Thanks for that info and advice on storage. I am trying to think of other plastic collectables that have survived the years and are older than starwars toys for a comparison and to show that the toys might be OK if stored right.
Cant think of anything of the top of my head though, other than bakelite radios and some of the Action man stuff. I think nylon palstic stuff is pretty durable too as I have some 79 plastic skyway bmx wheels and they are tip top with no fading or yellowing.
Anyone know what type of plastic starwars figs and ships are made from???
