Anyone with this concern that when displaying or storing a MOC vertically will cause stress to the bubble on the card and increase risk of detachment? If so when we are storing them should they be horizontal or flat?? Let's see what everyone's opinion is, thanks!! Simon

I'd say possibly flat, but doubt the figure is heavy enough be put a significant amount of stress to detach a bubble. I'd say detachment is more down to temperature variation, humidity and other factors in the mocs storage environment. I put more care on the storage environment rather than the horizontal or vertical factor.

I display my vertically, but now they are all in storage, I've started lying them flat.

Though to be honest I don't that the figure will have a huge effect if the bubble is strongly sealed

Wasn't someone on here not long ago upgrading from star cases to acrylic ant they found some that had busted out the bottom of the bubbles. It might have been Iain. Whoever it was thought vertical storage may have played a part.

It would make sense that after vertical storage and the general movement of 30 years, bottoms of bubbles could potentially take the hit. I've wondered if some bubbles are more susceptible than others though. I had a Jawa ROTJ Palitoy card and the bubble had just dropped to bits. My Meccano Yoda bubble just sort of fell off. It's got to be either poor storage, poor quality product or just the ravages of time.

I imagine that the bubble type that would stand the test of time best being stored vertically would be the ones with stems at the bottom. They have that extra support that would help to take the weight of the figure unlike the ones where the bubble is slightly floating above the bottom of the card.

I'm still also wondering if the temperature would affect the bubble yellowing or if it's just certain batches of the plastic used for bubbles had different chemicals in them that yellow over time. There does seem to be a certain pattern to some of these yellowing bubbles based on the era they are from and although you see the odd Star Wars one that's yellowed (first 20/21), these could be bubbles used from a later batch when transitioning to a new film.

Just a thought, oh and out of interest X-Pack, does the temperature in your loft fluctuate like most lofts and have you noticed any yellowing to your moc's ?

If I wanted to store mine I would lay them flat, but where is the fun and pleasure in that?
Mine are on display in a room shielded from light and temperature fluctuations.
I've bought mine to appreciate, and the only way I can go that is to see them.

My Moc's are all standing vertical, but i only have SW moc with bubbles wich have stem (gives extra support).
Just a thought, but another solution would be to have them at an angle, this way you would take most pressure off the bubble and you still have more display options.

It does fluctuate a lot mate. However, I haven't noticed any yellowing at all. The plus side of the loft is that it's dark. That's unless i'm up there with the light on of course. It's all been there a couple of years and I haven't noticed any issues. I do try to have the hatch open slightly in the heat of summer just to vent the hot air. If I did notice any problems then it would all be shifted.

I got some shelves made at UKG which allow the cases to lay back slightly taking preasure of the bubbles but still desplay well. Will post a photo of them soon.

I used to store my MOC's lying flat just in case the weight of the figures ever stressed the bubbles. However I used to display MOC's horizontally. 8)
