Star Wars T Shirt Designs

Considering my last post about your t-shirt fitting the criteria, which it does, the only logical explanation for it being rejected is that the slogan "It's A Trap" is more heavily copyrighted than the others. Possibly because of the recent Family Guy movie. They may have dibs on it. I don't know, i'm just thinkin outside the box. I'd still email them and ask why it got rejected. If it is a legal thing that's something you're going to need to know.

Why don't you sell it yourself? I actually thought you were selling these on your own site. If not, you really should be.
I'll sell it for you if you want! I may not have a fancy t-shirt company but i have a semi-sucessful and fast growing ebay business and vintage t-shirts is something i was planning on getting into later in the year.

I don't have the printing nous my man - I'd love to be able to get them out there - which is why I put them on sites like RedBubble - the return is tiny - but it's more about the designs and the idea that someone would wear them :)

If I knew a way of getting them printed and out to market I'd be on it! There was someone from AllTheCoolStuff that emailed me through this forum - but they never got back to me :(

I have enquired about T-shirt printing with these guys before ( http://www.firelabel.co.uk ). They can do Silkscreen printing on T-shirts (perfect for a 4 colour design and finish like you have created). They can also label the garments with your logo etc and package them all ready to go. The quote I got was not great but the first run includes creating the silkscreen to print from, once this is done all future runs will be a lot cheaper. Might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the thoughts/advice/links guys - I'll take a look at all the options - it's just a lack of funds (well enough to really give it a go) at the moment.

Funny that, it was lack of funds that stopped me in my tracks too... :(

It's kind of hard to take a gamble like that with a two year old son, and a baby on the way :/
I just wish I'd had the ideas/inspiration/skills 10 years ago!

I'm considering setting up a KickStarter project to raise the funds to turn this into a reality...
Worth a go?

I really do love all the designs, there are some absolutely shite looking SW related t-shirts out there so it's really refreshing to see these interesting designs, I think it's awesome how you get the text in there too, like others have said it's not always easy to spot it especially on the Ackbar!

Thanks - I'm going to keep on making these - they're fun :)

I have a cycle clothing company and print a lot of shirts.

www.morvelo.com

I'll try and get some figures for you just for any future reference if it helps

Ive had a look at these a few times and really love them. Its only now that I have actually looked properly and worked out the working on each of them. Very clever and unique. If you can I definately think you should work towards getting these out for sale, think you would do really well. :D

I love the fact that you've only just seen the lettering :)

Yay!

My Ackbar design has been accepted for voting over at TeeBusters - if it's cool I'll pop the voting link up. TeeBusters requires no registration - just click vote - and if it gets printed it will be less than a tenner :

Also I've had a reply from Qwertee concerning their rejection:

There's no real parody element in a design like that so it's likely to get you in trouble on a copyright basis.

Which seeing as how they accepted the other designs makes me think they don't get it, or didnt see the text in the head? I'm not sure if its worth replying and pointing out the fact that the design is essentially the same as the other three - but I don't want to run the risk of losing them!

I'm half thinking that a KickStarter may be a way to get some initial funding to get the shirts printed and out there?

We pay £5.50 + VAT and the Screen set up charge for printing is £22 per colour, this may help you in the future if the need arises. If you have any questions regarding getting shirts produced drop me a message.

Yeah, they're talking ****. Don't really know what else to suggest.
I don't know anything about these kickstarter loans. Something to look into i guess but then you really would need a more complete business plan.
The thing is, i wouldn't be scared with starting out small. When i started my business 8 months ago, i had no money whatsoever. I put in what i could and grew it very slowly. If you can somehow find £200 you can get one of your designs printed into Tees. You should get about 40 for that price or there abouts (say, 10 of each of these 4 designs). Say you sell them for £10.99. That gives you a £439.60 turn-over (£239.60 net profit. Minus ebay and paypal fees)
Once you've sold them 40 (let i all accumulate in your paypal. It could take months to sell all 40) you can reinvest the profit and get more done. So you may only make 300 quid in your first 3 months but then you'll make 800 then a 1000 and before you know it you'll have a business.

Yeah - damn annoying though - the Ackbar one seemed the most successful - hopefully it can get some votes over at TeeBusters instead :/

That's true - I really just want a little commercial sideline to go alongside the day job of teaching - just a little extra cash.

Sounds like a sensible approach - if I can get the initial cash from somewhere. If I did 10 of each - what would you suggest sizing wise? Mainly L but some M & XL as well?

I'm so pleased I joined this board - like I said at the start it was feedback on the designs - but here I am picking up business advice and some really excellent ideas.

Thanks chaps :)

I think I've got some Star Wars Kubrick sets in the loft - maybe I should flog them to help get the initial outlay covered?

Yeah i would definitely stick to M & L if you're only doing 10 of each. When you get up to doing 50 of each then you can get S, M, L, XL and Womens. Having said that, to cover your bases it would hurt to get 1 XL per 10. So 5 L, 4 M and 1 XL. Something like that.

Just got a quote back from Firelabel...

25 shirts with a four colour print (I was looking at the Ewok one) is £268.50

Seems pricey - maybe if I simplify the colours down - the Ackbar one is only two colours...
