Star Wars Fan Fun Day 2013 Burnley 6th May

I'll be there early with wife and kids. It's gets chokka around lunch with other people's wives and kids.

They have a bar :p

We went, we queued, got caught up in a crowd, we left... :?

You know how some events/places start off low key and then gradually become swamped in their own popularity? Well this is one.

Two years ago it was ace, walked round without being pushed and shoved, or feeling like i was in someone's shot. Now it's ****ing ridiculous  Could not move for folk. No chance of having a good look at the sellers' stalls for the crowds around them. It was just stressful and, ironically, not fun at all. The queue on the way in was quite cool with Stormtroopers and other characters posing for photos. That was great :) Unfortunately the inside (which appeared at capacity) was just a sweat box.

Not best pleased at paying £18 for the family. Kids just seemed overwhelmed by the crowd.

Yep it was really busy...got there for 10 and queued up
Was really busy and were some cool stalls, couple of stalls with decent bits of vintage
One guy had some lovely MOC s really nice palitoy R2. But bit pricey at £650
Nice POTF coin cards
Had a nice loose Barada, at £ 30 tried him at less not havin it so left it :D

Picked up some nice loose for little cash. Even got a Luke x wing fig no weapon for a £1

Post up some pics later of me being arrested :D

All the winks seemed to have a good time I know it was busy, but whilst queuing there were some good guys in costume that kept all entertained
Super massive Wookie was cool, Tusken Raider was really good, plenty of Stormies. One of the Fetts had put a bit of Timber on though

like you say, unfortunately word has got round and its now a really busy venue, suppose that's the way it goes

Enjoyed though

Here are a few from today, mainly from the queue 8)

Love these costumes. If i had met my Mrs 12 months later i would have bought a Stormie one. Was mulling it over at the time

Loved this dodgy Ewok. Looks more like Tony the Tiger but glad someones gone to the effort :p

Great pics lads - love that ewok

As Monday was so sunny we cried off to drink gin in the garden, sounds like the right choice. Do you think they will move it to a bigger venue?

Not sure. It could do to really. Like i said, loads of really cool stuff and some famous Star Wars type celebs but just way to busy. I would go so far as to say that it almost (not quite) rivaled Elstree Empire day. If they had some talks from the actors etc it would be bang on, but there just isn't room to do it at that venue.

The interesting thing is that Star Wars events are clearly growing in popularity. This particular one has probably doubled in size over the last three years. I was quite shocked at how many people were there. Security guards appeared to be flapping about the crowds inside and i'm not surprised as it must have been towards capacity. A larger venue is surely on the cards

It was a great day

Knowing the BFC set up, they will keep this going, but do have venue options, I in my working life deal with the stadium manager, so will sound out if there are any plans for next year

I actually got a few quality pick ups, and think with a bit more organisation and planning for the day, they could do it over a weekend...have a 2 day run, get a vintage interest from guys that will get some gear on their stalls

Like you say get the actors to do some talks, did you notice that other forums had a presence there?

If only  I didn't really see much in close detail. Not even sure who was there with what stalls. With the wife and kids in tow i fealt a bit self conscious about the crowds and stuff. They aren't hardcore fans and ,baring in mind that i was getting pissed off with it, thought that they were probably just bored AND pissed off.

If you know the guy then have a word. Like i say, the previous two were fantastic. A two dayer with talks would be amazing. Maybe there could be a ticketed day and an open day. The ticketed could be for talks and stuff with limited numbers. Know which one i would be at 8)
