Star Wars Display.

WOW I Go on holiday for a week and i come back to this! What an absolute beauty of a piece. Really is something special. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do :)

It's interesting to see the discolouring on the figures as these were probably not handled much and maybe the sunlight caused this? Also the fact that they're sealed inside a perspex dome may also have had something to do with it.

It still seems strange to me how this yellowing can happen or not happen on figures. Maybe the newer figures released (empire to Jedi era) are more prone to it with maybe a different plastic used or perhaps it's just how they were stored/played with back in the day. Not sure I've ever seen a yellowed Lando like that but with all that said it's still a great item! :D

Oops I missed this too, fantastic discovery. I wonder how many were initially made?

There are various examples of Palitoy window displays, as Chris mentioned there are some huge ones out there (you can see Hulk's here: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xk96ri_star-wars-palitoy-return-of-the-jedi-promotional-toy-display_shortfilms ) and the smaller ones like this.

They are amazingly rare and great items, the only downside is the size they can take up! I suppose that has an influence on the price?

Not sure if anyone has linked Dave Tree to the thread but I am sure he can give you some better advice and might even be able to help find a home for it.

Don't be ridiculous Joe, no-one is going to link me :)

Thanks for the heads up, whist cool to see some folk are looking up what has previously been written about these, I'm gutted no-one has referenced one of the two that were on display at the Palitoy Archive.

Sadly I'm away for next couple of days, so cannot really post details etc, but I would like to offer 2 bits of advice, I can help find a very good home for a very good price and secondly, no-one should really advocate Vectis as a default platform to sell, no-one gains other than Vectis, a lot of folk forget that.

I've already offered a very good home, but not even a response with either interest or dis-interest... I agree with Dave though, advocating Vectis and just saying it's worth thousands without actually knowing the real value does not help either.

It would be helpful to get some ball park figures of what this is worth, Chris has said £800-£1000 and I would like to know from others who have had experience in this field too.

I'm not convinced it will be sold to anyone on here, but I still have my hat in the ring so to speak.

Please feel free to contact me if you read this.

The only way to find the real value that someone's willing to pay is to put it up on ebay and send to an auction house who has good exposure to the type of collectors who would be interested in something like this.

I to would love this piece to find it's way into the hands of a collector who will truly love and treasure this item rather than someone just looking to make a profit on it. I see too many items getting bought up and then sold on (and sold on again and again with some pieces). It's just pricing everyone out of the hobby and will back fire at some point I'm sure.

The thing with Vectis is that they've become almost a second option for some people buying items online of late as they do get some nice things through their doors that don't make it to ebay. We've all seen that the bargains from this auction house and others are becoming slightly harder to find, probably due to more people being aware of them and also maybe having had enough of some idiot ebay sellers. Personally I think they take to much money from the sellers (and buyers), but they are a business and very upfront about their charges so it's up to the individual if they want to buy/sell their items through them. At least buyers can get to see the items first hand if they can get there and the deals are done before the items leave the building so there's less chance of the seller getting ripped off like on ebay. By mentioning to the owner of this display these possibilities I thought it at least would let them know how they would probably get their biggest return on it should they want to let it go or may in fact decide to except an offer from someone here (even though this is a valuation thread :? ).

As for value, well let's face it, there have been so few seen that it's going to be very hard to value it. When I said in the thousands (maybe a tad optimistic) I'm just thinking that it looks to be a desirable item that there are only a handful of in known existence and the market for star Wars collectables has really taken off in recent years. I'm not sure you can even factor in the prices achieved by others that sold in the past as times have changed even from that relatively short time period. There was a couple of very rare Palitoy posters that sold on ebay recently for a fair whack and I can imagine that there are a few collectors out there who would prefer to own something like this.

I'm not sure if my question from earlier about the price of the one hulk17 sold has been answered yet but at least that would be a start. The end of the day it's what someone's willing to pay and someone's willing to except. If the the asking price was too high it simply wouldn't sell but I think you'd be looking at around at least 1300 for something like this (just based on rarity and the price the palitoy posters went for), and who knows what it could achieve given the chance. Of course this is just my opinion and it's always going to be a gamble when selling, even something with a strong value history can under perform on any given day. Unless one has been sold this year I'm not sure how anyone can give a true value other than what they'd be willing to spend on it.

It does seem however that the owner is maybe not so interested now in selling it by their lack of response. Maybe they were just hoping for a quick valuation and then off to the bay or maybe to just know for themselves. It would be decent of them to at least respond to this thread they started as people are trying to help them out here and even if they have no interest in selling they should at least let people know so that some more info could possibly come out about it and people knew where they stood. It always gets people worked up when they see something they're after and feel they might lose out. I've been there myself and know how lack of response from potential sellers can be so frustrating and this really isn't the sort of forum for that.

Please do the right thing and make a comment, you know it makes sense :D

Hey Guys and Gals.
Sorry for the lack of Replys. My boss (the owner of the peace) has owend the Display since the late 70's/early 80's and as a result it is a bit attatched to it. He has told me that he dosn't want to sell it unless it is worth a lot of money (£900+). He is not willing to just put it up on Ebay or put it up to Auction. I've tried to talk him in to puting it up for Auction but he is un-willing to budge.

Also, as the camera I used to Photograth it is a peice of crap, you can't see the some of the damege that 30+ years of being moved to and from storage had occurd. The Dome has a few scratches on it (nothing deep, so you could buff it out), the ESB Sticker has shrunk and has torn because of the staples used to stick it to the backing, the display was used in the window of the shop so some of the figures (like Lando and the storm trooper) ar badly faded, and the turret on the top of the Falcun has fallen off. It seems like it would be a good Restoration project.

On the plus side, the dome it's self has never come off. Aparantly, these things were opened up to get the figures out so they could be sold on (Boba Fett Spings to mind). Luckly, this one never had Boba in it so the Owner has never had the urge to open it up and sell the figures on.

Hope that's a bit more info for you. Once again, sorry for the lack of Replys.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, that's good of you to get back to us all.

With what you mentioned about the damage to it, it would effect price but there may well be someone here who's interested in taking it at a price the owner might be happy with.

I did wonder if the discolouring to the figures was some sort of sun damage and it sounds like that's the case. I was surprised to hear that some shop owners opened theirs up to sell the figures as it looks like they would have been sold with glue around their feet!

Great to hear a bit more info on it though and it's also nice to hear that the seller isn't interested in taking it to ebay or auction, maybe it will end up in the hands of true collector (as apposed to someone trying to turn a quick profit), and we'll get to see it in someones collection on here one day.

Thanks again for your response and hopefully a deal can be made to temp it away from the present owner.

Does anyone know which toy shop it is? I think it may be. Clarice toy shop in Tenby. Any help would be great.

I want to call the shop as I have had no luck with any messages I have sent.

I'm thinking Maulster79 might be your best bet to ask.

I asked, lol.

Still waiting for him to get back to me, cheers Ian.

For all of you wondering, the Shop is Clarice Toy shop in Tenby. Unfotunatly, we have moved the Display from the shop, because we were scared someone would Break it (Thanks to the lady who didn't care her kid was hitting the dome and got S**ty with me for telling her kid off). Also, my Boss is on holiday till 1/10/14.
Thanks.

Why not just put it on ebay with a big reserve and see how it goes? AT least then you'll know what people are willing to pay for it.

Pete.

With respect, can everyone stop advising to sell it on eBay and Vectis.

I want to buy this piece and I have had a reply from the guy. I have asked him to talk to his boss (who he said was a little reluctant to sell now) which I understand completely.

Hopefully when his boss comes back we can get to a deal.

nice display

looks a little different to my one in the way its set up

I have seen 8 of these ESB displays now including this one all a little different and this is different to my one also.

There is also one with a Jedi logo one as well as this ESB one

There is the bunker display and a Tatooine jedi display and 4 different ESB displays and a star wars display also and then there is the toy fair displays that when retired when on to shops to help sell the toys in big department stores

These things are cool but they are also big so its not for everyone as the space they take up can dominate a collection room

hope that is of help

Jason

I have done some research regarding these display domes as there is no one who has any real idea about them yet everyone including myself seems to marvel at their beauty.
Companies house shows that N J Farmer Associates became Farmer Studio's.
I contacted Nick Farmer who confirmed that he made these in the late 70 ' s, from recollection he said he made about 40 of them for Palitoy all a little different, he said he would make a batch with a certain group of figures and then he would get a different batch of figures and make some more and so on. Unfortunately he doesn't have any photos or figures or anything left apart from what he remembers.
So if eight have been found so far I wonder how many left are remaining?

What a cool display, come on Palitoy experts I won't to no more about it.
