There seems a real craze over on RS over these?

I am presuming there are some sort of CVI exclusive?

Has anyone got any pics or info about them and what do you guys think to them?

Here's some info on the original idea behind them. :)

Star Tot Search

The ones at CVI were a give away at each collector panel. They're 2D metal figures designed to look like those original proto figures and they even had a vintage inspired display box for them. Here's a pic I took of mine. I lucked out in only being 4 short of a set, so that's why I'm going after those.

Star Tots are per school figures and vehicles that never made production. I think Gus Lopez owns some hard copy prototypes and there is some pre production artwork out there otherwise that's about it. Always loved the look of star tots and would love to own something like that but it's never gonna happen :) The CVI pre production give away is about as close as most of us will come although the prices they are going for on eBay are a bit ridiculous!

They are neat but not for me. I suppose the resale prices reflect all that waiting in line and sitting listening to guys talk about toys in the various collector panels for 3 days solid lol (oh and for us Europeans it would also involve about $2k worth of travel expenses just to try to collect them all :D)

Spot on Joe, just a shame that some people went to those great lengths to pick them up with the sole purpose of making a profit when others just wanted them for sentimental purposes. Actually some of the guys on RS have been selling some of their spares for very reasonable money!

They are pretty cool.

The give away at Celebration europe was a set of coins, which were also cool 8)

Yeah the coins were going for crazy money during and just after the event. I imagine these will be a similar fad, so I wouldn't go paying a fortune for them.

Same here too I think we are in the minority
Nope... I agree too. It would be one thing if you attended and had one to have a memory of going, but to actually get worked up about them is another thing(or pay over $5.00 each). I am sure a huge amount of work went into them with all respect, but at the end of the day it's just a piece of tin in a bubble on a production quality cardback.

I think it's a nice idea, but one thing that this (and all other novelty items) seem to forget is that we're all in this game for the nostalgia. So anything newly made, no matter how cool, will have little appeal with most vintage collectors.

Well i got sucked in as the PD looks exactly the same as the production figure - boxy but good  so have bagged one for my PD focus, considered the R5 & DSD for another run I am doing but the DSD just dose not do it for me TBH, though I think the PD tot will fit nicely in to my PD focus without looking stupidly childish
